Pre-Screener Form

Prince is on the at-risk list for behavior concerns. Prince was recently returned after a bite incident at home. The adopter explained that while they were waiting for the elevator with Prince, a neighbor approached with a large dog. Without warning, Prince lunged at the dog, which then bit Prince on the left side of his head. The adopter intervened to separate the dogs, and during the process, Prince bit the adopter's right arm three times, causing multiple puncture wounds. Despite this incident, Prince has remained social and affectionate with the care center staff, displaying a soft body and playful behavior with handlers. Medically, Prince is healthy.

Summary (5):: 06/13/25: Prince is standing at the front of kennel with a loose, wiggly frame as handler approaches. He bounces around as handler kneels down and will maintain a loose frame as handler clips their lead to his collar. Prince is walked to the Canine Behavior Office where he is switched to a drag lead and free to explore the space. He is loose, wiggly, and social with multiple handlers throughout his time in the room and will jump up onto them to solicit petting. Prince accepts petting along his head, neck, and body with a loose frame and allows handlers to pick him up without issue. After his session, Prince is returned to kennel safely.

Summary (6):: 06/12/25 Prince is at the front of his kennel with a loose frame and wiggly body. The handler will unlock the kennel door and pet around his neck, feeling out his collar and clipping his collar. Prince is taken out on a walk. Prince remains loose and wiggly, jumping and spinning on leash as they exit the facility. Prince will jump onto the handler playfully throughout the walk, appearing aroused as he continuously spins and hop around. Prince will relieve himself on the walk and he is returned to the facility. When attempting to enter the D block entrance, he will pull away and thrash. The handler will take him through the A block entrance where he will trot to his side of the building. The handler will guide him into kennel with no issue. 6/11/2025: When the handler approaches Princes kennel his body is loose, wiggly, and is jumping on the kennel door in excitement. When the kennel door opens, Prince remains wiggly and jumpy as the handler clips his collar and guides him outside for a walk. Outside Prince remains loose, wiggly, and happily accepts pets from handler. When going back inside, Prince pulls back and refuses to go inside the building. Prince is picked up and carried by another staff member and is put back down in the building. Afterwards, Prince walks back into his kennel with no further issues. 6/11 (assessment): Prince is sitting at the back of his kennel when a handler approaches. The handler bends to one knee, offering sausages and he ventures forward. Prince sniffs the sausage and begins to eat a piece, but then spits it out. The handler offers him other treats but he does not take them. The handler speaks to him in a soft voice, and his body immediately loosens, and he becomes wiggly. When the handler cracks open the kennel door, Prince retreats but then comes back. He offers the handler play bows and bounces before spinning away when the handler attempts to clip his collar with their lead. When he comes back to the front, he pushes his head into their hands, but spins away when they try to clip. He then begins pawing at their hand, his body remaining loose. Once successfully clipped he is taken to the behavior office for a handling assessment. He greets the assessor, body still loose, before exploring the room. Prince completes his assessment and is walked back to his kennel. Once in front of the room, Prince balks and begins jumping back and thrashing. The handler brings him back into the hallway to reset and bends down. He jumps into their lap seeking attention briefly before making another attempt to return him to the kennel. He does not take treats but once in the room, he walks back into kennel fine and allows the handler to unclip him without issue, now eating the sausages that he didn't before.

Summary (7):: 06/11/25: Prince stands and comes to the front of the kennel as the handler approaches. He allows the handler to attach a drag leash and walks with a lowered body to the canine training room. Prince is loose and social with staff, climbing into their laps to solicit contact. He initially balked when being returned to kennel, but entered without issue. 06/10/25: Prince is laying on his bed with a tense body as the handler approaches. He does not move when he sees the handler. The handler throws treats and Prince slowly follows the treats to the front of the kennel. Handler then introduces the leash and Prince slowly puts his head through. However, when the handler attempts to place the leash, he throws it off and retreats to the back of the kennel, refusing to come forward. The handler switches treats and Prince comes to the front again, though he retreats each time he sees the leash. The handler offers their hand and Prince begins to lean into contact. The handler is then able to slip the leash over his head. Prince walks with a lowered body to the canine training room. Once he enters the room, Prince sniffs the area intently. He then turns to the handler and begins to lean into contact. Prince also solicits contact from other handlers in the room, eventually allowing handlers to place a collar and a drag leash. Prince is loose and social with staff, climbing up into their laps and leaning in to solicit contact. He balks as he is being returned to kennel, but enters after a moment. 06/09/25: Behavior is requested in assisting with removing Prince from his crate due to growling, snapping, lunging and attempting to escape the crate. Handler squeaks a squeaker, and Prince's ears perk slightly. They crack open the crate door and two handlers squeak squeakers to attempt to lure him forward through the lead, but he does not budge. Handler slowly tilts the crate backward and as handler drops their lead inside, Prince lunges forward, growling and baring teeth. Handler resets and two other handlers are able to distract him long enough for handler to drop their lead over his head. The crate is oriented properly again, and the door is open wide for Prince to exit but he plants himself. A fourth handler helps to lower the crate onto the floor and Prince is slowly lured out of crate and once in front of the kennel door begins to thrash on lead. Handler uses directional leash pressure to guide him into kennel and a second handler slowly removes the lead with a hook.
