Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow

Date of intake:: 9/4/2025

Spay/Neuter status:: No

Means of surrender (length of time in previous home):: Stray, No known history

Date of assessment:: 9/7/2025

Summary:: Artemis has been observed to be highly fearful during her stay in the care center. Noted to remain at the back of the kennel with a tense and trembling body. During intake Artemis was observed to escalate to thrashing and alligator rolling. Due to the fearful behavior Artemis is not a candidate for a handling assessment at this time.

Summary (7):: 9/6/25: Artemis is laying near the front of her kennel but crawls to the back as handler unlocks the kennel. She is not interested in high value treats. Handler is able to lean in and place the leash on her but she remains at the back and does not come forward. Handler kneels down with door wide open but she remains curled up at the back. She allows handler to use the hook to remove the leash and interaction is ceased due to stress levels. 9/5/25: Artemis is laying in the corner at the back of her kennel. She turns her head away when handler speaks to her and tosses in treats. She is not interested. Handler presents the leash and Artemis tucks her head under legs, shaking. Handler kneels down with door slightly open, she looks from the side of her eyes without turning her head. Interaction is ended due to stress levels.

Date of intake:: 9/4/2025

Summary:: Thrashing and alligator rolling

Date of initial:: 9/5/2025

Summary:: Tense and trembling at back of kennel. Opted to sedate

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Artemis so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to fearful behavior we recommend a home with no children. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges: : Fearful

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Artemis has been observed to be highly fearful. Noted to have a tense and trembling body. During intake she was observed to escalated to thrashing and alligator rolling. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Artemis would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period.
