Summary:: According to Phivey Wivey's previous owner(s), he is reported to be playful but will hard bark or growl at dogs off leash. 06/23/26 Phivey is introduced to a novel female while off leash. He approaches the gate with a loose frame and readily greets the female through the gate. When meeting face-to-face, both engage in mutual sniffing. The female walks away and Phivey pulls hard towards her with a forward frame, attempting to mount.

Summary (4):: 7/25/26: Phivey Wivey is at the front of his kennel with a wiggly body; he is easily leashed and brought out the room. The handler brings Phivey to the yard and places him on a dragline; he presents a wiggly body while walking, sniffing and jumping on the handler. The handler presents them a puzzle toy with treats; he engages with it. After he eats the treats, Phivey walks around with the toys. The handler distracts him with treats, and grabs the toy, filling it with treats. The handler give the toy back and Phivey engages with it. When the handler sits down, Phivey jumps onto the handler's lap and allows pet with a wiggly body. He also doesn't react to dogs or people. After several minutes, the handler leashes Phivey and returns him to kennel. 7/23/26: It is noted on the whiteboard that Phivey Wivey might be housetrained.

Summary (5):: 7/18/26: Phivey Wivey is sitting at the front of his kennel when the handler approaches. He is easily leashed and taken out of the kennel. As soon as his out, he immediately begins pulling hard toward neighboring kennels with a tense, forward body. He is not receptive to treats, and handler has to muscle him out of the room. In the hallways, he pulls hard towards pop-up crates next to the elevator; his body is stiff, and he hard-stares at other dogs in the crates. In the elevator, he is heavily panting but sits next to the handler. Once outside, he continues walking with moderate leash tension ahead of the handler. He pulls towards certain spots and relieves himself. Phivey calms down, and his body gets neutral. He responds when called, and the handler cues him to "sit". Phivey accepts treats and wags his tail when handler pets him. When he sees another dog, he immediately stops and stares at them. Handler calls him, but his attention is completely locked onto the dog; his body is tense, and his tail is carried high. He attempts to move toward the dog, but the handler distracts him with treats and leads him in another direction. During return, handler is able to pre-clip the leash; Phivey follows the treat trail in the room, is distracted, and passes the kennels without reacting, which helps bring him back into the kennel without further issue. 7/15/26: It is noted on the whiteboard that Phivey Wivey is "great when returning, he needs treats when leaving the kennel." the note also states that Phivey is "kennel browsing". 7/11/26: Phivey Wivey is sitting at the front of his kennel when handler approaches. He comes closer and shows wagging tail when handler unlocks the kennel. He is easily leashed and taken out of the kennel. Phivey Wivey pulls hard out of the room and in the hallways. He attempts to jump on few pop-up crates but is distracted with squeaker toy. He sits next to the handler in elevator and gently takes offered treats. Once outside he pulls hard towards the gates; he sees another dog cross the street and starts pulling towards them. His body is tense with stiff tail. Handler is able to distract him with treats and recall and pull away but Phivey keep hard starring back at them. Handler engages with him in pattern games and, after some time, Phivey calms down; he continues walking with mild pulling slightly ahead of the handler. Phivey is social with handler, allows petting and follows commands "sit" and "paw". He doesn't react towards other people passer by. During returning handler is able to pre-clip the leash and Phivey Wivey readily goes back into his kennel by his own.

Summary (6):: 7/4/26: Phivey Wivey is lying down in kennel upon approach, he begins to wag his tail before standing up and approaching the front of the kennel with a soft body. Phivey is easily leashed and he begins to kennel fights on the a way out. He pulls towards the neighboring kennels with a tense body. Upon exiiting the room, Phivey jump up high by the handler. He bites the leash as they pass a front kennel and he attempts to pull towards the dog with a tense body and stiff wagging tail. He is kept away and redirected with treats. Phivey is taken to the street. He stares at dogs with a tense body. He is easily redirected from the dogs with squeakers and scattering treats. Phivey walks with a loose leash besides the handler. He relieves himself a few times before he is walked back to the shelter. Phivey Wivey is then slowly walked back to his kennel with a trail of treats and is returned without issue. NR 7/1/26: Phivey Wivey is reported to need to be belly banded while returning to kennel, both at the stairs and by the room. He thrashed and kennel fought while being walked into the room. 6/27/26: Phivey Wivey is at the front of his kennel with a wiggly body; he is easily leashed and brought out the room. While waiting for the elevator. Phivey jumps on the handler with a loose body, allowing pets from them. On the street, Phivey walks with mild leash tension; she doesn't react to people. when he sees a dog, Phivey pulls forward as they walk past but recovers. When he sees another dog, Phivey slows down and stares at it. The handler then walks Phivey onto the road to avoid the dogs; the other dog barks at Phivey, Phivey jumps up high and attempts towards the dog; he does this twice more before entering the building. While approaching the kennel, Phivey baulks outside the elevator; the handler attempts to add leash pressure by jogging into the room, but he refuses to move. The handler then does a treat trail, which he eats some of as he enters. As they are halfway, Phivey stops eating the treats from the treat trail; the handler applies leash pressure, and Phivey briefly walks before baulking again. once they're at his kennel, Phivey enters it on his own. 06/23/26: Phivey Wivey is at the front of his crate as handler approaches, he is leashed while distracted with treats but does not accept any. He is slightly tense when being leashed but allows leashing before exiting his crate slowly and walking into the center of the hallway. He sniffs a spot in the center of the hallway for a while and is difficult to redirect, he fixates heavily on the scent until finally losing interest and slowly walking with handler out to the yard for a dog/dog interaction (Details for interaction are available in the Behavior Assessment). After completing his interaction Phivey Wivey is brought back inside and he slowly walks back to his crate and returns without issue.

He is easily leashed and taken out of the room. Phivey Wivey walks slowly in the hallways without reactivity towards other dogs in pop-up crates. Once outside he immediately relieves himself and after continues walking with mild pulling slightly ahead of the handler. Phivey Wivey is social with handler and allows petting. He attempts to jump exuberantly a lot especially after recall but is distracted with treats. Phivey Wivey doesn't react towards other dogs or people passer by. After walk is finished Phivey Wivey is taken to the Canine Behavior office for the assessment (see notes). During returning handler is able to pre-clip the leash and bring Phivey Wivey back into his kennel with ease. YK 6/17/26: It was noted on the behavior whiteboard that Phivey Wivey "does not like returning to kennel. Treats, squeakers and jogging him in does not help. He is 'weird' when a sling is used". NR 6/17/26: Phivey Wivey baulk at the front of his kennel room when a Acs tries to lead him in side, treats and coaxing is used but Phivey Wivey lays low to the ground displaying whale eyes and a tucked tail. Behavior help assist and uses a sheet as a belly band to help bring him into his kennel with no issue.

ENERGY LEVEL:: Phivey Wivey is described as active and enthusiastic. They will need daily mental and physical activity to keep them engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm. We recommend feeding with puzzle feeders and food-dispensing toys. And we recommend using force-free, reward-based training techniques for Phivey Wivey.

Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: Phivey's previous owner states that he will have a tense body and hover over items in his possession. This behavior was also observed during his assessment. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Phivey's mouth, and any time something is removed they should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Basic Manners: Phivey's previous owner states that he will jump up often or non stop. This behavior was observed during his assessment. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Sit" and "Off" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach them to control their impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward-based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners. Mouthiness: Phivey's previous owner states that he will take treats roughly. We recommend giving treats with a flat hand and using force-free, reward-based training methods to teach Phivey to take treats with a softer mouth. Please see handout on Mouthiness. Fearful: Phivey is observed to be fearful when returning to kennel. Noted to balk and stay close to the ground. This behavior is not easily redirected with treats or coaxing. They should never be forced to approach anything that they are uncomfortable with or submit to petting or handling. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Phivey would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period. On Leash Reactivity: Phivey's previous owner states that he will bark and lunge at cats, children, and dogs while on leash. Phivey will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than dogs and other stimuli. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration. Leash Pulling: Phivey's previous owner states that he will pull hard while on leash. It is recommended that they be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which will help diminish their strength through leverage, and that they be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash. Please see handout on Leash Manners. Arousal: During his assessment, Phivey was observed to become overaroused. Noted to headwhip during contact and jump towards the handler during the jog portion. Positive reinforcement training should be used to teach Phivey to remain calm during arousing situations. If they begin to escalate, people should pause the interaction, and create distance from the trigger. Pattern games such as 1-2-3 treat and the cue “mat” can be used to reinforce calm behaviors.
