Cookie
Hello, my name is Cookie. My animal id is #244514. I am a female white cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 1 months 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 1/21/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person health - allergies.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormCookie is on the at-risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 02/04/26 ACFR Cookie was resting in her den when approached. As the kennel door opened, Cookie started to growl immediately. The den cover was slowly lifted and Cookie responded by swatting and hitting the clear den door and hissing. The scratcher tool was introduced through the side den door and Cookie swatted at it three times. A tuna lick mat was left after the socialization ended. 01/31/26 ACFR Cookie was hiding in her den and began growling softly when handler opened kennel door. When the den cover was removed she began to hiss/spit and strike at plastic barrier. Squeeze up was slowly offered using a scratcher tool at den portal, and she leaned her head out to sniff before quickly striking the tool repeatedly and hissing. Tool was removed and den cover was replaced. Interaction ended to reduce increasing FAS. 02/06/26 FB32 Hiding in den crouched down. Begins growling when opening the door. When reaching close with scratcher tool, she repeatedly bats the tool with moderate force. As the tool stays still, Cookie curiously pokes her head out to sniff the tool and then looks out of the den side door and lip licks. When reaching close and offering puree treat on the tool she bats the tool again with slightly less force and hesitates to swat. She softly hisses when raising the den cover to get a better view of her, swats the tool, and then sniffs and lip licks at the tool. She softly hisses again when lowering the den cover at the end of the interaction.
