I came into the shelter as a agency on 8/3/2026.
Mighty Bean has been placed on the at risk list for medical reasons. He has neurologic and orthopedic issues. He has wobbliness in his hindlegs and an exaggerated gait in his front legs. He also has bowing of his front leg bones. Behaviorally, Mighty Bean has been fearful and tense for handling but will warm up and has allowed to be carried. Mighty Bean needs further care and support for his special needs.

Tolerated tasks and being carried to medical. Is there evidence of suspected cruelty? No Objective: P = 120 R = WNL BCS 2/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean. Tympanum WNL AU. No nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Mild tartar PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupneic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Male intact MSI: Carpus valgus bilaterally. Ribs and lumbar vertebrae visible. Good ROM all joints. No neck or back pain elicited. SO: In medical being managed for ataxia BAR, comes to front of kennel, eager to come out. Eating with good appetite eent: eyes clear, no ocular or nasal dc apparent h/l: eupneic, no coughing or sneezing appreciated msi: ambulatory x4 neuro: mentation alert and appropriate, moderate ataxia, hypermetric gait, apparent intention tremor A: strong suspicion for cerebellar hypoplasia P: Mighty Bean appears to be comfortable and doing well in general Plan to continue to seek placement

Summary:: Mighty Bean is currently unable to undergo a handling assessment due to his ongoing medical concerns. He was surrendered as a stray, so his past behavior in a home setting is unknown. In the Care Centers, Mighty Bean has allowed medical handling, showing a tense body for exam. Growls for exam of head. Tolerated tasks and being carried to medical. He appears to be friendly and tolerant of most handling and will seek attetion from medical staff, rolling over for belly rubs and will display a wiggly body. His determination is reflected in the limited behavioral information we've gathered and observed. However, it’s unclear whether his behavior will remain consistent or if new behaviors may emerge once he is fully medically cleared. Positive reinforcement should be used when working with Mighty Bean.
Summary (7):: 8/7/26: Mighty Bean is at the front of his kennel whining when handler approaches to take him on a walk. Once leashed mighty bean springs out with a loose wiggly body ready to go. Mighty bean wiggles around the hallway whining eager to get outside. He stumbles to med staff for pets and even laying down and exposing his belly for belly rubs. When ready mighty bean and handler go out to the driveway where mighty bean explores his surroundings and relieves himself. After some time, mighty bean is easily brought back inside and carried into his kennel. 8/6/26: Mighty Bean is eager to come out of kennel and easily leashed. He stops to check in with handler and will roll over for belly rubs if the handler bends down to speak to him. He ignores other dogs on the street and does not seem to pay attention to traffic or other noises when out for a street walk. Mighty Bean is a little reluctant to return to kennel, but allows pick up and is replaced in kennel.

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: During intake Mighty Bean growled at police and staff, whale- eyeing with low head. When brought to the behavior office, the dog took treats well, and slowly allowed a leash lasso. They backed up into the carrier once the leash put on, and had to be slowly pulled from the crate. Staff could not lead the dog by leash without dragging them, so they opted to towel the dog due to their size and how they slowly warmed up to staff with a wagging tail. They growled under the towel, but allowed staff to carry them to kennel and remove the leash with the hook. Continued support should focus on slow introductions, allowing choice whenever possible, and using low-stress handling techniques to help build confidence and trust.
