Doolin
Hello, my name is Doolin. My animal id is #248397. I am a female gray cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years old.
I came into the shelter as a aco - owner surrender on 2/26/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- eviction.
Doolin is female cat with a cystic mammary gland tumor. She is currently stable, but needs placement for screening and surgery. Behaviorally, she is fearful, but allowed medical handling.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

Doolin is female cat with a cystic mammary gland tumor. She is currently stable, but needs placement for screening and surgery. Behaviorally, she is fearful, but allowed medical handling. What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have lived with cats in my previous home. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I would do best in a home with only adult humans.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Doolin was brought in from a hoarding situation with limited information on her behavior history in a home environment.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 3/4/26 FB06 In the den out of view, using the scratcher I place some squeeze up at the portal door. She brings her face close to the opening, her ears are forward but she does not look towards me. I offer her the scratcher and she backs into the den. I lift the den cover and her eyes are wide ears forward and her paws are tucked under. As I reach the scratcher inside the den through the portal she starts to slowly stand up. I am unable to touch her with the scratcher. 3/6/26 FB79 Today Doolin was a bit more tolerant of petting; she was inside of the den with neutral face and body and her eyes soft/almond. She didnt care for any of the treats that i offered and when i slowly brought the tool in for her to sniff she didnt lean in or move. She tolerated all pets on her head and cheeks with no reaction however when i ran the tool down her back continuously her back fur rippled as she turned to look at it. Other than her back tensing up slightly she remained still/tolerant
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid,Skittish
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: Please see behavior flyer.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Doolin would do best in an adult-only home where they would be able to acclimate in a calm environment.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Upon approach, Doolin is sleeping under the Kuranda bed at the back of the kennel. As the kennel door opens and she awakens, her eyes are neutral and ears are forward. As the scratcher is slowly offered, she leans her head forward and curiously sniffs. As petting is attempted she pulls her head tight into her body and her eyes widen. She tolerates some head pets, but as the scratcher is moved along her back, it begins to twitch as she watches the scratcher. No pick up was attempted at this time. Doolin tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
