Date of assessment:: 2/6/2024
Summary:: Due to Tony's growling while attempting to conduct his assessment. A handling assessment could not be conducted.
Summary:: According to Tony's previous owner, he did engage in altercations with the other resident dog. With familiar dogs, he is playful and tolerant. But with unfamiliar dogs both on and off leash, Tony will hard bark and lunge. 2/5: Handlers are unable to collar Tony due to him grumbling while trying to flee from handlers with a stiff body and tightly tucked tail. A gate greet is attempted with a novel female dog, but Tony grumbles with whale eyes and maintains his fearful body language while seeking an exit when he sees the female.
Summary (2):: 2/13: Tony is at the front of his kennel panting when a handler approaches. He is easily leashed and taken to the assessment room for another attempt at a handling assessment. Tony begins wandering the room, sniffing different areas before resuming his panting. He does accept treats from the handler and a 2nd handler that was also in the room. The handlers attempt to collar Tony but he begins whale eyeing while backing away, racing to the door, seeking an exit. As handler 2 readjusts the size of the collar, Tony returns to the treats, now only eating select treats. The handlers make several attempts to collar Tony but do not allow them to do so. Out of concern for his rising stress levels, the handlers suspend their attempts and he is returned to his kennel. 2/6: ACS Staff report that when Tony is taken on a walk, he attempts to bolt out into the streets to flee from staff. 2/5/24: Tony is lying and growling in the back of his kennel when the handler approaches, the handler throws him treats which he ignores. The handler attempts to leash him and he lunges at the handler. Tony begins to display a hunched body avoiding eye contact with the handler. After a few attempts at leashing him and him taking off the lead, he is leashed by a second handler. The handlers take him to the play yard where he sniffs around the yard, before beginning dog playgroup. Tony growls and jumps forward towards the secondary, Tony turns away right after. Tony is taken back into the center and placed into his kennel without issue.

Single-pet home/recommend no dog parks: Due to Tony's concerning history in his previous home and behaviors that indicate he is uncomfortable with other dogs in playgroup (see DOG-DOG Summary), we recommend that Tony to be the only dog in the home and not attend dog parks.
