Hello, my name is Ziggazy. My animal id is #87091. I am a desexed male brown brindle dog at the . The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 1 months 1 weeks old.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.
Ziggazy is at risk for behavioral reasons. Ziggazy has remained fearful at the care center and is particularly nervous with handling, avoiding interaction. Ziggazy is able to be leashed and does got out for walks, but extensive handling is not attempted as he is currently uncomfortable with this. Ziggazy would be best suited for placement with a new hope partner that can provide a quiet low stress environment and should work with him gradually to slowly build the patience and trust that he needs. Medically, Ziggazy seems healthy.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...
A volunteer writes: Ziggazy is a good-natured gent who knows what he likes and likes what he knows, a loyal pet missing his former family but slowly opening up at the Care Center to reveal brilliant bursts of hugging, kissing, tail-wagging energy. He loooves to explore, and long walks through the park are his favorite form of exercise as he sniffs out all the best scents with his sensitive nose, takes care of business as needed, and greets fellow dogs with the same low-key friendliness he shows us, humans. Ziggazy is sweet but stubborn, and when he really wants to linger over a new discovery, he'll plant his feet and remind you that to really appreciate life you sometimes need to stop and smell the roses...or that plastic bag...or whatever is on this tree. It's the little things that count and Ziggazy is counting all of them! He already knows how to come and sit on command and is happy to share his toys so it's no surprise to find he aced his behavior assessment and would fit into almost any home with ease. Quiet, affectionate, and soft as velvet, Ziggazy's patiently waiting at our Manhattan Care Center for his new life to begin...

IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: 1/29/20: Ziggazy was harnessed and taken for a walk by a staff member. During the walk, Ziggazy began thrashing his head, appearing uncomfortable with harness. The staff member attempted to take off the harness and Ziggazy snapped at her hand.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children: Ziggazy has been fearful during his stays at the care center, displaying discomfort with handling, freezing and becoming tense, and snapping at a handler who attempted to take the harness off of him. For this reason, we recommend an adult only home. Place with a New Hope partner: Ziggazy has been fearful during his stays at the care center, displaying discomfort with handling, freezing and becoming tense, and snapping at a handler who attempted to take the harness off of him. We recommend Ziggazy be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow him to acclimate comfortably to his new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Ziggazy to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior he presents with outside of the care centers.
Potential challenges: : Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Ziggazy is a fearful of fast moving things at the care center and would benefit from a slow approach. He has displayed discomfort with handling, freezing and becoming tense, and has snapped at a handler who quickly attempted to remove a harness that was on him and so will need people to move very slowly with him. Please see handout on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression. Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: Ziggazy displays some mouthiness with handlers at the care center. See handout on Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition.
