Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Pricilla is on the emergency placement list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions; she hisses and retreats to the opposite kennel to avoid contact. She has not warmed up and doesn't seem to respond to enrichment provided. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

What my friends at ACC say about me: I am looking for a home with a patient person. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets. A volunteer writes: I met Pricilla the other day at the Care Center. This frightened beauty looked at me with curiosity through her gorgeous green eyes. She meowed softly while trembling, and to keep from escalate her fear I didn't approach her; I preferred to hang back and hope she relaxed on her own. Pricilla needs an angel: someone who won't make demands on her, who will give her the time she needs to feel safe and comfortable, who understands that she's not a huge fan of humans right now but is trying to make friends as best as she can.

Ignores treats offered on scratcher tool and hisses when reaching close to place treats in front of her. Hisses again when gentle pet on head and tilts ears to the side. When stroking her back, she calmly retreats to the side kennel and keeps her body and tail low. Still stressed out and fearful. 3/16/22 Hissed with ears to the side when opening the cage door. Seems unsure with the interaction and remained stiff against the back of the cage. Alert with eyes wide, anxiously looking around. Continued sweet talking her until she blinked back. ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid,Independent

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period,Adult cat socialization

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Pricilla is a shy, timid, and independent cat. She was at the middle of the kennel crouched down under the kuranda bed against the wall with her head and ears forward, focused on the assessor with a tense body and wide eyes. When spoken to and opening the door, she slowly steps back. When reaching close to offer treats on the scratcher tool and placed in front of her, she continues stepping back until she is at the back corner of the kennel. When pet on the head, she hisses and slowly steps backwards towards the portal door. She looks back and hisses again when stroking her body, retreats to the side kennel, and jumps into her hidey box. When the assessor pulls the tool away, closes the door, and looks at Pricilla, she retreats and returns back to her spot under the kuranda bed. Pick up was not attempted in order to reduce stress and more treats were offered for her to enjoy later. Pricilla is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. She is very apprehensive of people and has been known to hiss, growl, swat, bite, and scratch (as reported by the previous owner) and she does attempt to flee and avoid human contact. It is difficult to predict if she will respond to socialization but we recommend offering high value treats and food to help build a positive association to humans. Please be mindful that older cats will require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Pricilla tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
