Pre-Screener FormPapa is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns in his previous home. Papa has had multiple bite incidents. The first occurred as a bite-and-hold that broke the skin while playing. The second incident happened when the owner was petting Papa while he was eating; Papa then bit-and-released that broke the skin on his finger and resulted in a serious injury requiring hospital treatment. The third incident occurred when the client attempted to touch Papa’s rear while trying to cue him to sit, which also resulted in a bite that broke skin. Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Multiple-bite history/risk of future aggression,Bite history (human)
Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: Papa is noted in the prior home to be a resource guarder and will bite when his food or toys are touched. He will also attempt to bite if he is touched while having possession of them.Management and training should prioritize strict safety protocols, avoiding forced removal, implementing trade-up exercises, and carefully building positive associations with people at a safe distance while Papa has valued items. Please see the handout on Resource guarding. Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Papa is noted to be reactive around new people and will growl and lunge.PaPa will chase and attempt to bite children. Training should focus on minimizing exposure to triggering situations, maintaining distance from unfamiliar people especially children and using controlled, structured introductions paired with positive reinforcement to reduce fear and prevent escalation. Please see the handout on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression.
