Animal Profile

Bayne

Hello, my name is Bayne. My animal id is #250088. I am a desexed male black dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 8 months 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a aco - impound on 3/20/2026.

Bayne is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Bayne is reported to be fearful and has escalated to displaying hard barking and baring his teeth when people approach his kennel. Recently, his behavior has deteriorated, and he has been observed spinning in his kennel and jumping toward the top of the kennel. Outside of the kennel, Bayne displays a neutral body posture and readily accepts treats offered to him. Medically, Bayne is apparently healthy.

Meet Bayne! Bayne was found as a stray and spent some time in a home before coming to the shelter. He is a sensitive boy who can be cautious at first, but with a little reassurance, he will approach for gentle pets and connection. He is still adjusting to new environments and benefits from a calm, low-pressure approach. My Ideal Home Bayne would do best in a quiet home with a predictable routine and a patient adopter. He needs time to build confidence and will thrive with someone who allows him to go at his own pace. A low-traffic environment will help him feel more secure as he settles in. Good with Other Pets? Bayne has shown no reactivity toward other dogs in care, though he has been noted to pull toward animals and moving stimuli on walks. Slow introductions and continued training will be important to support calm behavior around other pets. Good with Kids? Bayne is recommended for a home without children under 13 due to his fearful nature and sensitivity to new environments. Things to Know Bayne may become startled by outside stressors like cars or sudden movement and can show signs of stress such as yawning, lip licking, or a low body posture. He walks with a zig-zag pattern and will benefit from confidence-building and loose-leash training. With patience, structure, and positive reinforcement, he can continue to grow more comfortable and confident. A volunteer writes: Meet Bayne! Bayne is the type of dog who could change the English language. Picture it: you adopt Bayne and decide, as many people do, to keep his shelter name. You then, easily and joyfully, spend the rest of his life saying "you're the Bayne of my existence!" and he says "what does that mean?" and you say "it means you're amazing and wonderful and a reason to smile when I wake up in the morning" and you both laugh and eventually Merriam Webster agrees that a Bayne/bane is indeed a really, really good thing. This wonderful, shy little Oreo cookie was found February during a snowstorm. At the shelter and on a recent borough break he was timid at first but warms up once he feels comfortable, something I can certainly attest to during our walks where a few treats and a gentle approach score me lots of points. Bayne has not shown reactivity to other dogs at the shelter or on his borough break. He is available to a Level 4 adopter and recommended for a home without children under 13 due to his fearful nature and sensitivity to new environments.
