Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 07/17/25 Bluey is introduced at the gate to a female greeter dog while off leash at the care center. Bluey will approach the gate, greeting the greeter dog as he scents her through the gate and she remains still parallel to Bluey. The greeter dog is aloof, pretending if Bluey isn't present, looking past him towards the handler in his pen. Bluey appears sexually motivated as he displays a high flagging tail while standing on his tip toes. Bluey remains self-present, attempting to solicit her attention, however, she ignores him for the remainder of the interaction. Bluey is returned to kennel, concluding the interaction.

Summary (6):: 8/22/25: Bluey is reported to resource guard items in his kennel, growling and to be barking at his kennel door throughout cleaning hours. 8/21/25: Bluey is siting on his bed chewing on his enrichment bone as handler approaches. He approaches the front with the bone in his mouth with a tense body. He walks away again and lays down to continue chewing on the bone. He eventually drops it and is able to approach the front again and is able to be leashed with ease. He is then pulls hard to the behavior room for his assessment. In the room, he would walk around with a loose body and was comfortable approaching the handlers. He would lip lick and head whip when being petted. He would become tense and refused to give back the toy. Please see behavior assessment notes for more details. He would pull hard towards kennels and toys that were on the ground with a tense body on the way back to his kennel. 08/21/25: Bluey is standing at the front of his kennel and allows the handler to leash him with ease. He is then brought out for an enrichment walk, during which he walks ahead of the handler without pulling. Bluey displays a neutral frame as he explores the neighborhood and relieves himself. When passing dogs, he becomes reactive and pulls in their direction but is easily redirected with proper handling and a shortened leash. Once the session is complete, Bluey is escorted back to the care center and safely returned to his kennel. 8/19: Bluey is seen biting at the corner of his kennel at the same time as a neighboring dog is barking incessantly at the corner of their kennel.

Summary (7):: 08/14/25: Bluey is hard barking and jumping up in his kennel upon the handler’s arrival but allows the handler to leash him with ease. He is then brought out for an enrichment walk. While out, Bluey playfully jumps on the handler and, upon passing a toy on the ground, picks it up and holds it in his mouth for the duration of the walk. He maintains a neutral frame while walking on a loose leash, positioned moderately ahead of the handler with occasional light pulling. Bluey explores trees and grass as he relieves himself, continuing to carry the toy throughout. Once the walk is complete, Bluey is returned to his kennel safely and without any issues. 07/30/25 Bluey is lying down in his kennel as the handler approaches. Bluey is easily leashed as he remains still, proceeding outside for a walk. Bluey displays a neutral, relaxed frame as he is taken outside to the play yard. Bluey will enter the pen , exploring as he arrives. Bluey has a drag leash placed onto him and he is allowed to free roam, scenting the pen maintaining a soft frame. Bluey will engage with a tennis ball only for a second before disengaging and continuing to explore. Bluey is returned to the facility where he will enter the building as well as his kennel with no issue. 07/29/25: Bluey is noted in the care center to take treats roughly. 7/24/25: Bluey was lying in kennel as handler approached. He approached front of kennel and was leashed with ease. Bluey was briefly taken outside and then to the assessment room where he was clipped to a drag leash. Bluey took treats extremely quickly and roughly handfed. Bluey was apparently UTW and lethargic. He appeared to seek comfort from multiple handlers, frequently approaching and soliciting pets. Bluey would lean his head on handlers or lay down at their feet. He accepted pets all over. At one point he climbed up on a handler's lap. Bluey walked back to kennel without issue. 7/10/25: Bluey is standing at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He is able to be leashed with ease and he pulls hard on the way to the behavior room for his assessment. In the room, he would pace around with heavy panting and would jump up on the handler and try to bite at the leash. He was comfortable approaching the handlers for treats. Please see behavior assessment notes for more details. He pulls hard on the way back to his kennel with no issues.

Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: It is noted when in the kennel that Bluey will hover and body block his fod. During the handling assessment, when a plush toy was given to him, he would body block and hover when the handler got near or when the dummy toy hand touched the toy. Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: Bluey is noted in the care center to take treats roughly. Leash-biting: During the Bluey handling assessment, it is noted that he will jump up for the lead. Training will focus on redirecting this behavior using toys or treats, reinforcing calm behavior during leashing, and practicing impulse control exercises. Please see the handout on Leash-biting. Strength/leash pulling: In care, it is noted that Bluey will hard pull on the lead. Training will include loose-leash walking techniques, the use of appropriate walking equipment (like a front-clip harness), and rewarding him for walking calmly beside the handler. Please see the handout on Strength/leash pulling. Fearful/potential for defensive aggression/Kennel presence/barrier frustration: During Bluey's medical exam, it is noted that he was Hard barking, showed teeth in the kennel. Easily leashed and removed from the kennel for his medical exam. Training will focus on reducing kennel stress through enrichment, desensitization to approach, and reinforcing calm behavior during transitions.
