When the handler approaches with a collar King becomes tense and avoidant, creating space from the handler and not reapproaching. Handler is able to leash him and he exits kennel quickly, he pulls toward the dogs in the room hard attempting to kennel fight while vocalizing in a high pitch very intensely. King exits kennel and continues vocalizing for a bit, he is brought out to the street for his walk. During his walk King starts by pulling moderately, he stops to sniff and use the bathroom shortly after reaching the street. Handler observes King is shaking vigorously and after finishing using the bathroom he zig zags in front of handler while heavily panting and salivating. He continues to stop and sniff occasionally and passes people on the street without issue. When spotting a dog he stops and stares as it passes but loses interest and turns away. King and handler continue forward, he is taken on a long walk and he is observed over time to settle progressively. ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on King Bubblegum so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to fearful behavior and baring teeth during his medical exam we recommend an adult only home. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful Defensive: During his medical exam Kinng was observed to be panting, vocalizing and bared teeth towards handlers when approached. During assessment King was observed to have a tense body and show whale eye. It is important to move slowly with King, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people. They should never be forced to greet or to interact if they are not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression.
