Meechy
Hello, my name is Meechy . My animal id is #256330. I am a female gray tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 10 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a aco - owner surrender on 6/4/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- homeless.
Meechy needs at risk placement for medical reasons. She is a sweet, senior cat with an upper respiratory tract infection and severe dental disease. She is not eating and needs supportive care in a veterinary clinic to clear her infection. Once cleared, she also needs dental extractions to resolve the inflammation in her mouth.

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. A volunteer writes: Meechy, a senior gal was left behind when her owners moved away. She might have lived with another kitty but its whereabouts are unknown. A concerned citizen took care of Meechy(qualified as a very friendly cat) until she was picked up by our field officers. Meechy was a bit reserved when I first met her but treats and tuna brought down her guards(same with the veterinary team). Catnip toys and feather wands had an even greater effect on Meechy, sending her playing like there was no tomorrow. No overstimulation, though, just plain good fun(see her video). Meechy is now quite happy to see a visitor. She makes friends quite easily, charming guests with head bunts and purrs. She is a very sweet and cute cat, very girly and petite. Meechy did very well on her behavior evaluation, is apparently healthy but missing most of her teeth(she should be fed soft food)and on the underweight side. It is without say that Meechy needs a home sweet home where she will feel safe, loved and will be well cared for. If you want to help a senior live happily during her golden years, Meechy is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center. What my friends at ACC say about me: I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I am a sweet, social, older gal, looking for the perfect forever home! Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I am a cat that is in need of a lap! I can't wait to be your new lap cat.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Meechy was crouched in her cubby with neutral eyes and forward ears and approached the handler when the kennel door was opened. She began licking up the treats offered to her while leaning into pets in the process. She continued to allow all petting but when transitioning to pick up, she tried to squirm away and began stress meowing, her eyes dilated. When placed down, her tail was lowered and close to her body as her eyes remained dilated, but she accepted some more petting. Meechy interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience or demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
