Let's get to know each other a bit more...

A staff member writes: "I want to be with you! I want to be with you!" Says Belle's excited barks. And boy, does she ever. While on a walk, she would constantly check up with you, happy to be in your company. Very aware of your movements, she easily changes direction with a light shift of the leash, and instantly stops when you do. She delights in petting while waiting at the corner for the light to change, and would hug you if you crouch down or sit down low enough for her to get her paws on your shoulders. Of course, this means that she has access to your face as well, and she is eager to clean it thoroughly. She also adores attention from other people, wagging her tail so vigorously when they pet her that it could remind you of Devo's "Whip It" (an oldie but goodie from the 80's). She's just so much into you that you ought to come and be into her as well. You will make her so happy that I would advise you to steer clear of her tail when she starts to "whip it, whip it good". A volunteer writes: Belle lives up to her given name. She is a little beauty with the the softest golden eyes and all wrapped up in a dark chocolate dress. She is small and compact and waits expectantly at her door for someone to leash her and take her out. Belle is the perfect sitter.She does love treats and waits for you to drop them in her mouth. She never grabs. She is most of the time serious but occasionally displays a silly smile showing only her bottom tiny teeth. It is so cute. She elects to come on my lap as soon as I settle on a bench in the yard or in the park and is a most gentle kisser and hugger. She rolls on her back for belly rubs, wags her tail a lot and comes on the double when called. Belle is a good walker and does her business on the way. Birds and squirrels are a tease to her and she would not mind giving them a chase. While on the leash, she reacts to other dogs, particularly if they are not civil to her. She is such an affectionate and lovely gal that I hope that a great home and family will teach her all about socializing with her peers. Belle is at the Manhattan Care Center, dreaming of a warm hearth, a cozy lap and the love of a new master. She is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center.

Date of initial:: 11/3/2017

Summary:: Friendly, playful

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Belle so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm.

IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: Though highly social when interacting with human caretakers, Belle has displayed some on leash reactivity. She is playful, exuberant and actively seeks/solicits attention; she has displayed no handling concerns.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: AVERAGE (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
