Pre-Screener Form

Craig is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In his previous home, he has bitten twice, though neither bite resulted in broken skin. He is reported to guard his food, treats, and toys, escalating to snapping. Craig has growled at both his previous owner and care center staff when they attempted to leash him. He shows no interest in treats, but has been observed wagging his tail once outside the kennel. Medically, Craig has dental disease but is otherwise healthy.

Summary:: In the Care Centers, Craig is fearful, growling at staff, flinching at loud noises and displaying a slightly tense posture. His previous owner stated he began to growl when she would attempt to leash him. Due to these behaviors, Craig will not get a handling assessment.

Summary (7):: 12/21/24: Craig comes to the front eyes wide, ears pinned back as handler unlocks the kennel door. When leash is presented, he softens and wags his tail. He is not interested in treats but remains at the front for leashing. He is walked in the yard where he is soft bodied with wagging tail. He checks in frequently with handler and will sit for treats. The wind rattles something and Craig moves quickly forward and turns towards the sound. He returns to kennel without issue. 12/20/24: Craig is sitting at the back of his kennel facing forward. He growls, tense body ears back when handler approaches. The door is opened slightly and Craig comes forward head down attempting to push out of the kennel. Handler offers treats, he is not interested. Something is squeaked and he picks his head up and growls but then attempts to push out of the kennel. Handler is eventually able to secure the leash and he is walked in the yard. He is tense bodied throughout interaction and looks back at handler frequently. He jumps towards pigeons walking on the ground or perched on the fence. When on leash in a pen, he approaches the second handler with wagging tail. He is kept away for safety. He returns to kennel without issue. 12/19/24: Craig is standing in the front of his kennel as handlers approach. He is offered treats but does not take them and gives a low growl as handlers begin attempting to leash. He stops as his door is opened and begins dodging the leash briefly before being successfully leashed and brought to the yard for his walk. Craig walks with a slightly stiff body and continues to not accept treats once he is brought out to the play yard. He does not pull when walking but when after entering and sniffing around the front play yard briefly, he begins to pace around frantically and seeks exit. He is brought out of the yard and walked around the perimeter of the yard for a bit and will jump/flinch at sounds he hears. Due to Craig becoming more fearful and becoming visibly more frantic during his walk, he is brought back and returns to kennel without issue.
