Sweet Girl
Hello, my name is Sweet Girl. My animal id is #229883. I am a desexed female white dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 years 3 months 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a returns on 8/1/2025.
Sweet Girl is at risk due to behavior concerns. Her previous owners returned her following a bite incident involving a one-year-old child. According to the owner, Sweet Girl had been gentle and appropriate with the children in the past; however, when the child attempted to lie with her inside her crate, she growled and snapped, leaving a small puncture wound that broke the skin. While she has frequently presented as social, affiliative, and engaged with handlers—accepting touch, responding well to training, and walking on leash with ease she has been reported by staff to hover and growl over her food during feeding time. Medically Sweet Girl has dental disease, a mass, & otitis externa.

Medically Sweet Girl has dental disease, a mass, & otitis externa. Meet Sweet Girl. Her name might be simple, but it's perfectly fitting for a dog this gentle. She was found tied to a tree, but she's never let that ruff start harden her heart. In the shelter, she can usually be found curled up for a good nap, dreaming of the day she can trade kennel walls for couch snuggles. Sweet Girl is all about the simple joys-stretching out in the sun, leaning in for quiet cuddles, and going at her own paw-some pace. She'd be happiest in a calm, adult household that understands her need for personal space and will let her blossom in her own time. She's ready to turn over a new leash on life and become someone's most loyal best friend. Come meet her at Queens ACC A volunteer writes: Our sweetest girl is named Sweet Girl. Maybe it's on the nose, but if you spend 10 seconds with her you will be cooing at her and calling her that anyway! Like a few dogs currently in our care, Sweet Girl is wiggle monster who dive bombs into the nearest person to earn belly rubs. If you are a person who has met Sweet Girl, you have seen her glorious belly, and are #blessed by it. Found tied to a tree, Sweet Girl was adopted at an event and quickly returned. No matter - she and her belly are prepared to wow the next lucky person who lays eyes on her! Sweet Girl is available to a home with some experience and older kids (respectful ones only please!)

Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Fearful,Bite history (human)
Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: In care it is reported that Sweet Girl will hover and growl over her food bowl during feeding time. During the assessment, Sweet Girl began to body block the assessor's toy. It is essential to work on desensitizing her to having her possessions handled by using techniques like trading up for higher-value items and practicing "drop it" and "leave it". Please see handout on Resource guarding. Fearful: Sweet Girl is noted to display some fearful behavior during her handling assessment, a ow body, lip licking and lies next to the assessor. A slow, gentle approach paired with positive reinforcement and a calm, predictable routine will help her build confidence and feel more secure during handling and care. Please see the handout on the decompression period. Bite history (human): Sweet Girl owners came to QACC to return her due to a bite incident in the home. The owner said she has interacted with the owner children very well and gentle as well. The owner said two days ago Sweet Girl was in her kennel. The owner one year old child attempted to go lay with Sweet Girl in the crate and the dog lightly growled and snapped at the child, leaving a very small mark, puncturing a layer of the skin.
