Animal Profile

Pleakley

Hello, my name is Pleakley. My animal id is #248466. I am a desexed male white cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 2/27/2026.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Pleakley is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

This beautiful orange and white tabby was found living in a staircase with another cat and a few kittens. His family members have all found loving homes, and Pleakley is ready to be next! Pleakley has found the shelter a little overwhelming. He is seeking a patient person to help him decompress and learn to trust again. Could it be you?

KNOWN HISTORY:: Pleakley was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment Upon intake cat was fearful but tolerant. Was picked up, held, and placed in carrier as well as kennel with ease.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 03/05/26 FB58 Laying in bed, completely hidden upon approach. He hisses and growls when his bed is touched and when I open it he hisses with a tense face and body, hissing and swatting. He jerks away from the scratcher tool when touch is attempted. 3/9/26 FB79 Inside of his den, Pleakley is poking his head out of the den when i lifted the kennel cover and looked inside; he had wide eyes, forward left ear and tilted left one as his eyes dilated while i tried to talk to him. He continued to hiss and spit as i opened the kennel door and when i very slowly brought the tool close he reached out swatting and low grumbling before retreating his head into the den. 3/10/26 FB58 In cat den, hidden and hissing upon approach. I open the door and lightly toss a tray of squeeze-ups in. I then spray feliway and end the session. Needs more time to adjust. 3/13/26 FB79 Inside of the den, Pleakley has his head poking out when i lifted the kennel cover and greeted me with a harsh hiss. When i noticed the portal door was close i opened it and he quickly ran to the other side and into the litterbox. Shy boy must have been closed off and was stressed off. I left him a treat and toy near his den and respected his space today. 3/17/26 FB61 Lying in cat den, body and face completely hidden from view. I try to coax him out with treats and a catnip toy to no avail. Hopefully he explores the offerings later when he feels more secure. 3/19/26 FB58 out of his den and eating food near the front of his den! He tenses when I lift his cage cover, eyes wide and dilated and ears tilted, but remains in place. When I place some squeeze up down at the front of the cage and step make he takes some hesitant steps forward before he begins to eat with the cover down. When I step forward and peek at him, he backs away and lifts a paw when the tool is offered, remaining tense but not hissing or swatting. 3/20/26 FB79 Inside of the kennel, Pleakley is perched at the side of the of the den with his paws tucked and his tail wrapped. When the tool is brought in, he quickly stands and backs away from the tool while lifting his paw slowly and watching it very closely. He did not tolerant any pets and jumped to the top part of the den followed by watching me for any further contact attempts. 3/23/26 FB79 Super cutie pie today, Pleakley is laying on the side of his den with a very loose and relaxed body; his tail is loose and when I greet him he looks up with wide eyes while meowing and reaching out to make a air biscuit. When I reach in to pet he starts to purr and roll over some more to expose his belly. He slow blinks as I talk to him and later on saw him on the other side of the kennel with his tail wrapped around his legs. He watched me while slow blinking so I gave him a catnip toy. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 3/2/26 Laying low in his hidey bed, Pleakley can be heard hissing when the kennel door is being opened; he had flat ears and his tail is tightly wrapped around his body as he continues to hiss when spoken to and his eyes dilate. Pleakley backs his head away from the tool when it was brought close for him to sniff and very briefly allowed petting in his head before harshly hissing and attempting to flee to the other side of the kennel. He stood with a low tail/body as he turn towards the portal door while looking at the assessor for further movements. His shoulders her tense and his ear tilting back and forth. When the assessor slowly moved the tool he darted in through the portal where he curled up in the back and hissed once again when the assessor lifted the other kennel cover. 3/6/26 Inside of the hidey bed, Pleakley is out of sight and when the assessor attempted to slowly lift it to take a peak inside, he hissed harshly and reached out to swat the tool that was used. He continues to hiss and growl as the hidey bed was moved around in attempt to make him exist and as he peaked his head out he lunged forward while spitting and trying to strike the tool. Pleakley's ears were almost flat and eyes were wide while he did not the assessor to reach in with the tool as he striked it with force multiple times. When the assessor was able to remove Pleakley from the hidey bed he quickly retreated to the other side of the kennel with a low body/tail where he laid low in his litterbox with flat ears. Pleakley is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat and is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
