Kloe
Hello, my name is Kloe. My animal id is #215640. I am a female brown dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 7 months 3 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 12/27/2024, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- landlord won't allow.
Kloe is at risk due to behavioral reasons. Kloe is showing significant signs of deterioration in kennel. She has been noted to becoming increasingly restless, persistently jumping and spinning in her kennel regardless of room activity levels. The spinning is more prevalent during active room times. This persistent jumping is causing Kloe's kennel to be covered in her own feces; additionally blood has been found in her kennel indicating a self-inflicted injury likely from her persistent jumping in kennel. Kloe is noted to be leash reactive with dogs, but is able to be redirected and is manageable. Kloe is highly social with staff. Medically, Kloe is healthy.

Click here to experience the cuteness! What my friends at ACC say about me: I don't always like to share my food, toys or bedding with other animals. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some canine body language together! I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me. A staff member writes: Kloe is a gentle and easygoing girl who's a pleasure to walk. She greets you at her kennel with a soft body and is easy to leash up. On walks, she may lightly pull at times but generally stays close, happily sniffing her surroundings. Kloe is calm and non-reactive to people passing by. When she spots other dogs, she may pause and become alert, but she's easily redirected with treats and gentle guidance. She enjoys exploring and returns to her kennel without any fuss. Kloe would thrive in a calm home that offers regular walks, positive reinforcement, and lots of love. Come meet this sweet, well-mannered girl today!

Date of intake:: 12/27/2024
Summary:: Fixated on dogs but allow most handling
Date of initial:: 12/29/2024
Summary:: Tense body for exam
ENERGY LEVEL:: Kloe is described as medium energy. They will need daily mental and physical activity to keep them engaged and exercised. And we recommend using force-free, reward-based training techniques for them.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 3
Recommendations:: No children (under 13)
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to handling sensitivity and on leash reactivity we recommend a home with no children.
Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Handling/touch sensitivity,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration
Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: Kloe is reported to growl at other dogs that try to get near her food. No reported resource guarding with humans. We recommend feeding dog separately. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Handling Sensitivity: Kloe's previous owner states that she is fearful when her collar is grabbed. Positive reinforcement, reward based training should be used to pair touch with good things such as food rewards in order to teach Kloe to be more comfortable with this. Please see handout on Handling and Touch Sensitivity. On Leash Reactivity: Kloe's previous owners state that she will hard bark towards people that approach while on leash. During her stay in the care center Kloe has been observed to be highly dog reactive. Noted to hard bark and lunge with raised hackles. This behavior was not able to be redirected easily. Kloe will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than people and other stimuli. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.
