Oreo Girl
Hello, my name is Oreo Girl. My animal id is #261650. I am a desexed female black cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 months 3 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 8/16/2026.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormOreo Girl is on the At Risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display challenging behavior during interactions. She is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. Without providing activity for her mind and body, the cat may react with rough play, potentially resulting in bite/scratch incidents. It is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with feline body language, overstimulation, rough play, and who have the time to invest in managing these behaviors on a consistent basis to avoid (further) bite/scratch incidents.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Oreo Girl was brought in without information on her behavior history in a home environment.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 8/27/26 FB58 In her den and hidden from view, when the cover is lifted she is curled up and a sneezy little girl. I offer her some toys and treats but I can't coax her out - even the laser pointer. She seems a little curious but may just be under the weather. 8/28/26 FB61 Oreo Girl is in her cat den upon approach, body and face neutral with her tail curled around her feet. I leave her some treats but she shows no immediate interest. When I lift her den cover she vocalizes softly and repeatedly. She hisses when presented with the scratcher tool and she tolerates head pets without escalating. Needs time. 9/14/25 FB79 At the top of the kennel, Oreo is enjoying her dinner and had no interest in me when i entered the kennel; she had a neutral face and body with her tail mid level. As i spoke to her she would look over and slow blink but would return to her food. I left her a catnip toy and a treat for dessert 9/20/26 FB47 Oreo girl greets me at the front of the kennel with a loose face and body. When I open the kennel door and greet her, she begins to rub her body against her den and the side wall. I am wearing bite gloves. She accepts head and neck pets. I begin to pet her body and her tail and body begin to wave. She latches onto my arm. Once my arm is free we continue with head and neck pets. We play with the laser pointer. At the end of our interaction I give her a new scratcher with some cat nip on it. She goes right for it! 9/21/26 FB79 At the front of the kennel, Oreo Girl sat with her tail wrapped and her eyes neutral; when i entered she stood with a mid level tail and started to head bunt/push the door with her head while i tried to keep it only slightly open to avoid her from jumping out. I used the tool to pet her back and body as she paced back and forth and would occasionally turn back harshly towards it. I used the bubble machine with she enjoyed and i left her a tray of treats with a toy. 10/01/26 FB61 Standing in front of kennel, leaning against door with a soft expression and ears forward. Her tail is raised, curved and begins swaying as I open the kennel door. She leans in for petting with the scratcher tool while arching her back, turning her head and rubbing her cheeks all over it. I offer her a tuna pop and she accepts it with no signs of escalation. She appears to have a very high energy level, but I think she is getting more tolerant with the potential to allow petting!
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Energetic
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Social,Sweet,Affectionate,Demanding,Playful,People oriented,Curious
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Overstimulation,Rough play,Very high energy level,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: Please see relevant behavior flyers. During her second behavioral assessment Oreo Girl started to engage in rough play and became overstimulated while interacting with the assessor. When they put their hand/arms into the kennel (wearing bite gloves), Oreo Girl solicited attention but quickly became overstimulated after a few pets over her body. Her body and tail began to lean and wave back and forth quickly. She wrapped her front arms and paws, with extended claws, around the assessors arm and began to bite down. She displayed no defensive behaviors such as hissing, growling, vocalizing, or swatting. After the fact, she did distance herself from the assessor before reapproaching again, repeating her previous behavior. Future adopters should be well counseled in overstimulation, rough play, and very high energy level.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Adult only home.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 8/19/26 Oreo Girl is inside of her den with forward ears and dilated eyes. She sniffs scratcher tool offered at the portal of the den. When the den cover is slowly lifted, she begins to low grumble. Oreo Girl does allow all petting on her cheeks and along her body with the scratcher tool while softly hissing, there is no further escalation. 9/19/26 Upon approach, Oreo Girl is at the front of her kennel. She has a soft face and body. When she sees the assessor approaching, she chirps and begins to rub against the glass of the kennel door, Her tail is high and sways slightly. The assessor opens the kennel door and puts in the scratcher tool. Oreo girl leans into head and neck pets briefly before playfully beginning to wrestle the tool biting down. The assessor removes the tool, puts on bite gloves, and re-enters the kennel. Oreo Girl greets the assessor. She accepts head and neck pets leaning in. She allows full body pets arching her back into the assessors hand. The hair along her spine and tail begin to stand on end, her high tail begins to sway. Her body and tail begin to lean and wave back and forth quickly. She wraps around the assessors arm, wraps her front arms and paws with extended claws around the assessors arm, and begins to bite down. She attempts to wrestle the assessors arm. She does not growl, his, or vocalize. The assessor frees their arm from her grasp. Oreo girl distances herself from the assessor before reapproaching. The interaction repeats. Pickup is not attempted at this time. Oreo Girl is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to scratch and bite in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
