Toby

Hello, my name is Toby. My animal id is #212960. I am a male gray dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 10/24/2024, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- eviction.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Toby is at risk for behavior concerns. Toby arrived at the care center as an owner surrender. The owner mentioned that Toby enjoys playing in the water and is generally relaxed at home. However, they also reported that Toby exhibits resource guarding behavior with certain individuals, which includes hard barking and snapping. Upon intake, Toby was reported to hard barking and growling while in the crate at Staff. In the care center, Toby remains fearful, tensing up, flinching and backing away when staff attempts to collar him. Medically, Toby is apparently healthy.

Summary (7):: 11/7/24: Toby is laying in the back of his kennel as handler approaches. He is called over by handler who uses a squeaker attempting to get his attention. Toby remains laying down looking away from handler so handler unlocks kennel door and lassos Toby before lightly tugging on the leash which motivates Toby out of his kennel. He walks with handler out into the backyard and is collared and placed on a drag leash. From there Toby is brought inside where multiple other small dogs are already inside waiting to meet Toby. He enters the yard and when approached by the other dogs stiffens up slightly and remains still. After the dogs leave Toby alone he remains in the same place for the entirety of his time in the yard. He doesn't accept treats tossed to him and is brought back up to kennel, he allows handler to remove drag leash and returns to kennel without issue.
