Animal Profile

Anemone

Hello, my name is Anemone. My animal id is #88440. I am a desexed male black cat at the . The shelter thinks I am about 7 years 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 2/12/2020.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Anemone is at risk for medical reasons. Anemone was brought to us by a good Samaritan who found him as a stray. Anemone has been diagnosed with diabetes which will need long term care and further veterinary consultation. Behaviorally, Anemone has been fearful at the care center, but does warm up slowly. Ideally, Anemone should go to an experienced cat owner that can provide the medical care he needs, as well as a quiet, low stress environment to help him gradually come out of his shell.

Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 5. Red

KNOWN HISTORY:: Anemone was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 2/13/20 Striking in den when rounds was moving the den sideways to check him out. When revisited after about an hour, he was still hiding in his den. Didn't come out when coaxed with squeeze up but was eating it when given through the den holes. No hissing, growling or striking during the interaction but didn't push to avoid escalation. Fearful. Needs time to adjust. 2/14/20 Resting in the den on approach. Alert with eyes wide open. When moving closer with the assess-a-hand for pets he quickly striked out of the den. Which lead to ending the interaction. 2/17/20 Resting with a soft body in his litter box. He makes eye contact with slightly dilated pupils and remains in place. He sniffs the assessor's hand when extended and allows gentle petting on the head. He starts to warm up and leans in for cheek rubs (loves them!). Remained calm throughout the interaction. Sweet boy. Improving! 2/19/20 Becomes alert when door opens and looks at the assessor with wide and dilated eyes. His eyes soften a bit when coaxed and he'll lean forward to sniff the scratcher tool as it extends. Doesn't show interest in treats, but will slowly allow pets and leans in for cheek and chin rubs, closing his eyes! 2/20/20 Lying down outside den and will look up at assessor with dilated eyes. Will lean forward to sniff the assessor's hand, and then accepts petting on his head. He then leans in for cheek rubs and arches his body. May be ready for re-eval soon. 2/23/20 Resting in the den on approach. Doesn't engage when spoken softly nor when gently poked through the holes. Seems to be sleeping deeply. Left some squeeze up for when he wakes up.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Social,Shy ,Sweet,Affectionate,Curious

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: New home adjustment period

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Anemone initially displayed fearful behavior in the care center, but with extra attention he's blossomed into a sweet and affectionate cat. He may still appear fearful when first approached, but he warms up quickly with attention and leans in for cheek and chin rubs. He will even come forward to interact, allowing petting all over his body. Although he is a bit tense when picked up, he remains calm when held and is easily placed back into the kennel. Anemone interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience or demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
