Animal Profile

Brownie

Hello, my name is Brownie. My animal id is #201301. I am a desexed male black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 years 5 months 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 11/1/2024.

Brownie needs emergency placement for medical reasons. He is an adult cat with jaundice. He is improving while on Doxycycline but needs an internal medicine consult including abdominal ultrasound to determine the cause of his condition and long term prognosis.

You may know me from such films as...

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Brownie needs emergency placement for medical reasons. He is an adult cat that is becoming more icteric and anemic in shelter. We suspect a bile duct obstruction and secondary hemolytic anemia based on imaging and bloodwork. Brownie needs an internal medicine consult including abdominal ultrasound and possibly biliary surgery. A volunteer writes: Brownie is a cute tuxedo who is right now not feeling too well. His future is unclear...but we still have the hope to help him through this very difficult period in his life. Brownie used to live with other felines and was known to be cats' and people's friendly. Surrendered with his friends because of allergies in the family, he was very quickly adopted and surprisingly found recently in a Good Samaritan's backyard. Brownie was very weak and had lost a lot of weight...A sweet cat he is, sweeter and sweeter as the days go by. He was pretty lost upon arrival at the care center. Yesterday, encouraged with some gentle words, he started head bunting, rolling and purring in his kennel, clearly happy to have company. He seemed a little stronger too and even ate a decent amount of food. It is without say that lovely Brownie needs specialized care  outside our facility. This brave little soldier is hoping that you will hear his fans' plea for help and give him the chance to feel better and regain his health. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Calm,Sweet,Curious,Skittish

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Brownie was crouched inside the den, having lifted the cover upon approach. He appeared alert, with relaxed, forward-facing ears and eyes at rest, indicating a calm demeanor. Brownie allowed petting along his head and remained docile throughout. When picked up, he stayed calm and continued to tolerate additional attention after being placed back down. Brownie tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.
