Glory
Hello, my name is Glory. My animal id is #164887. I am a desexed female brown dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 11 months old.
I came into the shelter as a agency on 6/15/2025.
Glory is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Glory has not acclimated well to the shelter environment despite best efforts to keep her comfortable. In the kennel, she has displayed a high level of kennel stress and reactivity to other dogs - hard barking, lunging, spinning, with a flushed face, red eyes, heavily panting, and rebounding off her kennel door. While she is often easy to leash and can display a loose body and affiliative behaviors during one-on-one interactions with handlers, her difficulty settling after arousing stimuli and her lack of consistent engagement with enrichment suggest challenges with self-regulation and coping in a high-stress environment. Medically, Glory is apparently healthy.

I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I can go home today! I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I am looking for a home with a patient person.

Summary:: According to Glory's previous owner(s), Glory has interacted with different dogs and is often described as Playful with dogs both familiar and unfamiliar regardless of having a leash. 06/20/25: While off-leash at the Care Center, Glory was introduced to a novel female dog. At the gate, Glory approached with an aloof body posture. Both dogs engaged in mutual scenting through the gate. The novel female offered play bows, while Glory remained present but eventually lost interest and walked away, displaying displacement scenting. The novel female remained near the gate, and after some time, Glory returned to engage in another round of mutual scenting. During this second interaction, Glory displayed a high, curved tail. She then disengaged once more and resumed displacement scenting, not returning to the gate. The interaction concluded with both dogs being separated. 06/18/25: While at the Care Center, Glory was introduced to a novel male dog. Upon approach, she displayed a soft body posture and tail wags. Both dogs engaged in mutual sniffing through the gate. Throughout the interaction, the novel male appeared unfocused—scanning the environment and pacing without clear direction—while Glory remained present near the gate. The male dog continued to move around the yard with limited engagement. Eventually, Glory lost interest and began displacement scenting as she walked away from the gate area. The interaction concluded with both dogs being separated. BACC 2023' Glory was surrendered to the Care Center as a stray so her past behavior with other dogs is unknown. 2/20: When off leash at the Care Center, Glory is introduced to a novel male dog. She is nervous and hesitant to approach the gate to greet the other dog. With coaxing and treats from handlers, Glory finally greets the male but remains uncomfortable. 4/8/23: Glory greets a male dog at the gate with play bows. When he reciprocates her gesture, she becomes conflicted and tense up then grumbles. She remains uncomfortable and continues to grumble at him.
Summary (5):: 7/23: Glory can be seen standing on her kennel door hard barking incessantly and heavy panting at dogs that pass her kennel. 07/22/25: Glory is lying on her kuranda bed as handler approaches and stands on hind end, placing her front paws onto the kennel door as handler unlocks it. Glory is leashed with ease and pulls mildly out to the play yard where she is clipped to a drag lead and free to explore the space. Glory spends several minutes scenting urine spots along the yard before approaching handlers. She takes treats gently from hand and will "sit", "shake", and "high five" when cued. After her session, Glory is walked back to the Care Center. She balks outside of the kennel room but is easily lured forward with tossed treats and returns to kennel safely. 7/17: Glory was seen panting heavily with a red, flushed face and eyes while rebounding off her kennel door. 07/15/25 (trainer note): Glory is standing at the front of her kennel with a loose tail wag as novel handler approached. She is easily leashed and pulled moderately to the live room. She is placed on a drag leash and explored the room with a loose frame. She engaged with enrichment items and readily oriented towards the handler. While eating from the snuffle mat, she allowed the handler to continuously approach her and toss extra treats onto the mat as her frame remained loose. At the end of the session, she was easily leashed and returned to her kennel. 7/10: As a handler exits the behavior office, Glory is seen lunging and barking hard at another dog that is removed from its crate. She does not settle once the dog has left the room and continues barking, face and eyes red and flushed. She repeats the behaviors when the other dog returns, this time standing on her crate door while hard barking.
Summary (6):: 7/8/25: Glory approached handler at front of crate and was leashed with ease. She walked to the live room where she was clipped to a drag leash. Glory was fairly aloof spent the majority of her time scenting around the room. She did not show interest in treat puzzles or toys. Glory was returned to crate using a handful of treats. 6/22: Glory was seen barking and spinning in circles in her crate, face and eyes red and flushed. She pauses when she sees people, panting heavily. 06/18/2025 (For assessment): Glory is at the front of her crate and takes treats through crate. Handler is able to leash her with ease. Glory explores Behavior office with relaxed wiggly body. Glory is tolerant of touching, seeking out treats and interaction from behavior team. Upon returning to kennel Glory does stop before re-entering crate, however with the use of treats she does re-enter kennel withe ease. 06/18/25: Glory is standing at the front of her kennel and will allow the handler to leash her with ease. She is then brought to the play yard to meet a playmate. Once inside the yard, a drag leash is placed on her, and she is allowed to roam freely until her playmate arrives. When the playmate enters the yard, both dogs engage in displacement sniffing and walk away from each other, showing minimal interest in interaction. For more information, see Dog-to-Dog notes. Glory is brought back to her kennel safely without any issues. 06/18/25 Glory is in her crate with a loose frame and wagging tail as the handler approaches. She vocalizes as the handler leashes her, leashing her with ease and proceeding outside for a walk. The handler takes her outside to the play yard. Glory is taken through the C stair case in which she scales with no issue. She maintains a loose frame as she pulls her way to the yard. Glory will enter and begin to explore. The handler will collar her and place a drag leash onto her. She allows handling as the handler pets her while clipping her collar with the drag leash. Glory will free roam, exploring the pen for the remainder of her time outside. She is returned to her crate where she will enter the building as well as her crate with no issue.
Summary (7):: 2023: - Prior Stay in care 04/8/23: Glory was at the front of her crate when the handler approached her. She was easily removed and walked outside. Glory displayed soft social behavior with the handler. She investigated several areas and checked in with the handler, taking treats from her. After her session, she walked back to her new kennel without issue. 04/03/23 When handler approaches crate, Glory is loose bodied, tail wagging, waiting in front of the crate door waiting to be roped. The handler ropes her with ease, and they proceed outside for a walk. Glory maintains a loose body and wagging tail while walking moderately beside the handler. Glory accepts treats gently and will accept pets. The handler returns her back to the facility in which she enters the building with no issue. The handler places a drag leash onto Glory and allows her to free roam while her crate is cleaned. She is calm, curiously exploring the room and lightly jumping onto the handler. Once clean, the handler places her in her crate with ease. 03/17/23 When handler approaches kennel, Glory is loose bodied and tail wagging. The handler unlocks kennel door, ropes Glory and picks her up to place her on the ground. They proceed outside for a walk. Glory displays a loose body and wagging tail while slightly pulling on rope. ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Glory so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 3
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),No cats,Recommend no dog parks
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to Glory's Potential challenges, we recommend she be placed in an adult-only home at this time. Recommend no dog parks: Due to Glory's conflicting behavior, Glory should not visit dog parks.
Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Basic manners/poor impulse control,Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Anxiety,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration
Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: In the prior home it is noted in the prior home that she considers toys and food items of value. Will growl or hard bark. BASIC MANNERS/ POOR IMPULSE CONTROL: Glory has demonstrated a lack of basic manners in the care center, jumping up onto staff and stealing food. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Leave it", "Sit/Stay", "Down" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach her to control her impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. See handout on Basic Manners and Impulse Control. Fearful/potential for defensive aggression/Handling/touch sensitivity:She is fearful when restrained, barks or growls if disturbed while sleeping, is startled, moved off furniture or has her collar grabbed but is unbothered by having her paws touched. MOUTHINESS/ POOR BITE INHIBITION: Glory takes treats hard. She will need consistency and force-free, reward-based training to learn to take treats gently. See handout on Mouthines. Anxiety: Glory is noted in the prior home to have general anxiety. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Glory is noted in the prior home to reactive to small animals and large dogs when on walks and will bark at them.
