Date of assessment:: 4/14/2025
Summary:: *4/14/25* Fonzie is brought into the assessment room for an assessment. He is noted to be tense with a low tail and ears. He is receptive to treats and chicken. With coaxing the handler is able to place a collar on him. However then Fonzie begins frantically seeking exit, pacing around the room and pacing by the office door. Fonzie is no longer receptive to treats and no longer approaches the handler with coaxing. Due to the high levels of fear, stress, and anxiety Fonzie is not a candidate to receive a handling assessment at this time. *4/13/25* When brought into the assessment room Fonzie remained tense and fearful. Observed to have a tense body low tail and remained avoidant of the handler. Fonzie is receptive to treats when they are tossed on the ground. When approached by the handler Fonzie stopped being receptive to treats and began to hide behind the secondary handler. Due to the high levels of fear, stress, and anxiety displayed. Fonzie is not a candidate to receive a handling assessment at this time.
Summary (7):: 4/26/25: Fonzie is siting at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He is able to be leashed with ease, and he bolts out of his kennel. He pulls hard on the way downstairs for a walk, and would continuously pull and look behind him. On the walk, he would pull hard frantically and was not able to settle. He had no interest in treats or toys. When people were walking passed and from a distance, he would baulk to the ground and then begin to pull forward frantically again. He would hide behind the handler while in the elevator. He pulls frantically on the way back to his kennel. 4/25/25: It is reported by staff that Fonzie is social with the handler holding his leash. However, he becomes fearful again when other staff approach, even known staff members. 4/17/25: Fonzie is reported to be extremely spooked by a man that was running on a walk outside. 4/14/25- Fonzie is at the front of his kennel with a tense body, he is easily leashed and when exiting the building, he would keep looking around keeping his body low to the ground. He would pull back when going around a corner. Handler softly spoke to him and he slowly made his way around the corner. He is hypervigilant on the street (looking around, ears pinned, zig zagging while walking). He was aloof with handler and he would gently take treats from handler's hand. He had no reaction to people passing him. He was taken for his assessment where he is avoidant of handlers and gave him high value treats while collaring. He would stop eating the treats when being collared. He was avoidant of handler and assessment was ended to not further stress Fonzie. He ran around the room when handler attempted to re leash, they used a treat lure and was finally leashed. When returning to kennel, he would lower his body and zig zagging walking. He went into kennel without issue and went to the back of his kennel. 4/13/25: Fonzie is standing in his kennel with a tense body frame as handler approaches. He is able to be leashed with ease, and is taken outside for a walk. On the walk, he would pull hard ahead and spin around in circles due to being nervous. He would pull and shy away from people that would pass while coaxing his head and body down. He is then taken to the behavior room for his assessment. He was nervous of being collard and would hide behind the handler. Due to his fearfulness, his assessment will be completed on a later date. He is then taken back to his kennel with no issue.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Fonzie so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to fearful behaviors we recommend an adult only home. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.
