Zara is on the at risk list for medical reasons. Zara is a geriatic dog who was diagnosed with a mammary gland tumor and additional mass extending from left elbow. She would benefit from being taken to a full service vet clinic for further evaluation and potential mass/tumor removal if deemed appropriate. Behaviorally, Zara has allowed for handling during her medical exams.

My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I am a sweet, social, older gal, looking for the perfect forever home! I am playful and cute! Meet Zara! Zara came to us as a stray with unknown history after arriving alongside another dog. From intake, she has been described as very friendly and outgoing, happily allowing handling and attention from staff. She approaches readily when called, enjoys petting, and carries a soft, neutral body during interactions. Zara is a sweet, social older gal who enjoys being around people and isn't shy about soaking up affection. My Ideal Home Zara would thrive in a loving home where she can enjoy companionship and a relaxed routine. She walks nicely on leash and has shown calm, neutral behavior in new environments. She is food motivated, which can be a great tool for continued training and bonding. Adopters should be prepared to discuss her medical needs with staff to ensure she receives appropriate follow-up care. Zara would do well with someone looking for a gentle, affectionate companion to share their days with. Good with Kids? History with children is unknown. Based on her friendly and tolerant behavior during handling, she may do well with respectful children. As always, slow introductions and supervision are recommended. Good with Other Pets? Zara arrived with another dog and showed neutral behavior toward a dog in a crate during her assessment. With proper introductions, she may do well with a compatible canine companion. History with cats is unknown.

It is the policy of ACC not to perform surgery on any animal over the age of 8-10 years due to the higher risks incurred in a shelter setting. The veterinarian is hereby issuing a permanent spay/neuter waiver, from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY due to the estimated age of this animal. ACC does recommend you consult with your veterinarian to determine if surgical sterilization is appropriate.
