Other Notes:: Lucky will bark at unfamiliar dogs on or off leash and prefers contact on their terms. Lucky is friendly and outgoing with familiar dogs. Lucky is house trained and will use the bathroom outdoors and on wee wee pads. Lucky is mouthy and will take treats roughly. Lucky is fearful of loud noises. Lucky will snap, bark, and show teeth towards strangers when they approach the home/yard. Lucky is unbothered when held/restained. The owner has never tried to bother Lucky while he is sleeping, push/pull him off furniture, touch his paws/feet, or grab his collar. Lucky is a fearful, talkative dog that prefers contact on their terms. Lucky spends most of his time in the kitchen, bedroom and living room. Lucky won't let the family bathe him or trim his nails. Lucky will mildy pull while on leash. Lucky is used to 20 mins walk 1-2 times a day. Lucky is not crate trained. Lucky does not know any commands. Lucky was fed house food. Lucky loves chicken with ham. His favorite treat is cheese. The owner said their favorite thing about Lucky is that he follows them around the house and jumps up to be picked up and held.

Summary (6):: 09/25/26: Lucky is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches, his tail wags low and as handler unlocks the kennel door he retreats and moves to the back while panting and cowering in the corner. Handler begins attempting to lasso Lucky gently but he continuously shakes the leash off, after many attempts handler decides to end interaction due to Lucky's increasing stress. 9/24/26: Lucky is in the back of his kennel as the handler approaches. As the handler attempts to lasso him with a pre-clipped leash, Lucky dodges the leash; several attempts are made to leash Lucky, but he avoids it by moving away or keeping his head down. After a few minutes, the handler removes the leash from kennel and ends the interaction. 9/23/26 (PM): Lucky is in the back of his kennel as the handler approaches. As the handler attempts to lasso him with a pre-clipped leash, Lucky dodges the leash; several attempts are made to leash Lucky, but he avoids it by moving away or keeping his head down. Once the leash is on him, the handler brings Lucky out the room. Lucky walks behind the handler on the street. Lucky then baulks in place; when leash pressure is gently added to encourage him to walk, he resists walking and thrashes. when the handler walks him in a different direction, he briefly walks before thrashing again. The handler then jogs Lucky across the street towards the shelter; Lucky initially thrashes. but jogs with the handler. This process an behavior is repeated until they get to the room. Once they enter the room, Lucky climbs into kennel. 09/21/26: Lucky is at the front of his kennel lying on his side as handler approaches, handler unlocks the kennel door and presents the leash to Lucky who moves away into the back of his kennel. Lucky begins dodging the leash as it is placed on him and moves away as the leash makes contact with him. He is eventually leashed successfully while he cowers in the corner with a tense and hunched body. He follows minimal leash pressure out of kennel and scurries forward out the room nervously looking back at handler while pulling forward on the end of the leash out to the street. He walks with handler outside remaining in front of them and turns back to handler during the walk before dashing forward and away from handler nervously. Lucky begins to settle as the walk progresses, he avoids people generally but passes them without issue, and is mildly fearful of loud or sudden noises. He eventually begins sniffing around and relieves himself a bit before being brought back inside. Upon reaching the gate Lucky begins baulking and refusing to walk, he eventually follows moderate leash pressure back into the building and allows handler to clip his leash while being slightly tense bodied. He returns to kennel following mild leash pressure and interaction is ended

Summary (7):: 9/20/26: (Mid-Day) Lucky is at the back of his kennel with a tense body and begins to whale eye the handler. Handler kneels down and speaks in a soft voice and proceeds to toss a treat. Lucky doesn't react and begins to become avoidant towards the handler. Handler presents the leash, and Lucky would shy away and attempt to hide in the corner. The handler slowly attempts to lasso him, which isn't successful. After a few tries, handler was able to get the leash onto him. Handler proceeds to speak in a soft voice, which Lucky would still not react to. Handler begins to remove the water bowl and linen from the kennel, and Lucky would then jump out of the kennel and become stiff and tense. Lucky shortly walks forward with the handler and begins to persistently thrash. Handler takes multiple breaks throughout the walk due to Lucky's high FAS and thrashing intensity. Once out in the driveway, Lucky would slowly walk around but would thrash if any leash pressure was applied. He would spot a dog and wouldn't react; shortly after, Lucky would baulk and begin to watch the handler. Handler is then able to clip the leash. Lucky would watch the handler and the handler was able to safely clip the leash. Afterwards, handler attempts to proceed to walk back inside, and Lucky would thrash again; handler would jog forward slightly, and Lucky would follow but then stop. A second handler approaches slowly with a large towel and places it over Lucky's body and then slowly allows pick-up. He is then carried back to his kennel, and the interaction is ceased. 9/20/26: (AM) Lucky is at the back of the kennel, tense and whale eyed. Handler tosses a treat and he sniffs it briefly but does not take it. Handler unlocks the kennel and reaches in and presents the leash. Lucky leans back away from the leash. Handler is able to reach in and place the leash over Lucky's head, while doing so, Lucky is whale eyeing and lip licking. Handler steps back out of view and the kennel door is left open. Lucky remains inside his kennel and refuses to move. He moves to a rear corner and lays down with whale eye. Handler ends the interaction and removes the leash carefully with a hook.

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to Lucky fearfulness we recommend he is placed in adult only home at this time. Place with a New Hope partner: Lucky has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
