Summary (6):: 2/28/26: Juno is lying down on the floor at the front of his kennel. He lifts his head to take treats. When the kennel door is opened, he gets up. He is easily leashed and pulls moderately out of the kennel room. On the street, he passes both a big and small dog within ten feet and does not react. His body does not tense and remains neutral. He sits on command and takes treats with a hard mouth. He pulls moderately back through the kennel room and gets back in kennel willingly. 2/25/26: Juno is sitting on his kuranda bed as the handler approaches. He is easily leashed and brought out the room. In the driveway, the handler gives Juno a sit command which he follows; the handler gives him a treat and he takes it with hard mouth pressure. Then, Juno reacts to a dog exiting the building, by barking and pulling towards them. The handler shortens their leash and walks Juno towards the street, away from the other dog. On the street, Juno walks ahead with little to no leash tension. He allows pets from the handler as well. Juno continues to follow the sit command when given, and eats the treats tossed to him. Upon entry, the handler clips their leash and returns Juno to his kennel with ease.
Summary (7):: 2/19/26: It is noted on the whiteboard that Juno is "reactive to birds". 2/16/26: Juno is already out with another handler, as primary handler comes to retrieve her for her assessment. Leashes are swapped and Juno is taken for a street walk, where she would pull very hard away from the handler constantly looking back with wide eyes and a slight tense body. Handler tries to coax using squeaker sounds, treats & a soft voice which she isn't receptive towards any. Shortly after, she is brought back to the assessment office where she is observed to be panting and pacing back and forth. She allows collaring and after the assessment easily returned back to her kennel.

ENERGY LEVEL:: Juno is described as active and enthusiastic. They will need daily mental and physical activity to keep them engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm. We recommend feeding with puzzle feeders and food-dispensing toys. And we recommend using force-free, reward-based training techniques for Juno.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Single-pet home,Recommend no dog parks,Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to on leash reactibity we recommend an adult only home. Single Pet Home/ No Dog Parks: Due to bite history, we recommend a home with no dogs. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.
Potential challenges: : Anxiety,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Strength/leash pulling,Bite history (dog)
Potential challenges comments:: Bite History (Dog): Please see bite history above for more details. Please see handout on Bite History and Potential for Future Aggression. Anxiety: Juno's previous owner states that she has general anxiety. During her assessment she was observed to be panting and pacing around the room. If Juno displays anxious behavior in their future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving them other things to focus on to alleviate their anxiety. Positive reinforcement, force-free training should be used. Please see handout on Generalized Anxiety. On Leash Reactivity: Juno's previous owner states that she will hard bark and growl towards strangers, cats, and dogs while on leash. Juno will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than dogs and other stimuli. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration. Leash Pulling: Juno's previous owner states that she pulls hard while on leash. It is recommended that they be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which will help diminish their strength through leverage, and that they be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash. Please see handout on Leash Manners.
