Perki
Hello, my name is Perki. My animal id is #249313. I am a male gray tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 3 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 3/9/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person health - medical.
Perki is on the At Risk list due to behavior. His previous owner reports that he likes to chase and pounce on toys and bugs or play fetch. He tends to play rough. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. Medically Perki was diagnosed with dental disease.

Medically Perki was diagnosed with dental disease. What my friends at ACC say about me: I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together! Perki is not open to interaction at this time and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. Because his previous owner reports he prefers contact on his own terms and preferring to be where his people are in a home environment, we believe the behavior seen in the care center is shelter-specific and this cat would make a great pet, but is really struggling in the shelter environment. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, home with adopters who are willing to work with a cat who needs time and patience to help him adjust to their new home.
