Clinton
Hello, my name is Clinton. My animal id is #225088. I am a desexed female brown tabby cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 2 months old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 6/8/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- owner elderly.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormClinton is on the at-risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. Medically, Clinton is healthy.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 6/17/25 FB58 In den with a tense face and body, lunges at the front of the den and hisses as the cage door is opened. Very stressed and upset, was moved up to Sun porch for some reason so I speak to the ACSs to move her to holding and put in an ACR to start Gaba but don't push for an interaction today. 6/20/25 FB61 Lying on perch, body and face tense. She focused on me when spoken to and she hisses with each treat I offer through her food portal. She maintains eye contact while flattening her ears into an airplane wing position. I slow-blink and speak to her softly before ending the session and she remains too focused on me to engage with the treats currently. Needs more time to adjust. 6/25/25 FB58 In den, hisses and lunges when the cage door is opened - shows no interest in treats offered and continues to hiss. When I offer the scratcher tool, he sniffs then bites it. I try and softly shift the den backwards and he darts out and I close the door to prevent him from escaping.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Clinton would do best in an adult-only home where they would be able to acclimate in a calm environment.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: On approach, Clinton is in her den and hidden from view. She cannot be coaxed out and can be heard growling from inside the den. When the den cover is removed, she hisses and spits before lunging to the front of the den and swatting with a tense face and body, eyes wide and dilated. The assessor is able to make contact with the scratcher tool but she continues to hiss, spit and growl as she lunges at the front of the den. The interaction is ended to prevent further FAS and pick up is not attempted. Clinton is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, lunges, spits and hisses, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
