This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Ahriya needs at risk placement for medical reasons. She is a mature cat who is not eating due to a severe upper respiratory tract infection. She loves cheek and chin rubs and needs supportive care in a veterinary clinic to recover. A volunteer writes: Who is this pretty lady in a top cage in our large adoption room? Ahriya is said to be a Domestic Shorthair but why are her eyes blue and what is this brownish hue on top of her head reminding me of a certain breed of cats. I guess this is not that important as what really matters is how good a kitty is. Ahriya is often seen resting in her bedroom. When a visitor shows up at her door, she comes out to see who could be knocking and she might give a little hiss of surprise. Do not be alarmed, talk to her in a soft voice, come with presents(like squeeze ups or a fancy puree or simple hard treats) and she will be all yours. Be gentle and comforting and you will see what a sweet gal she truly is, loving all the attention and cuddles she can get. Ahriya is not all sweetness. She looooves to play and is quite enthusiastic at battling a feather wand...Ahriya is with us(together with friends Dudley and Jenga) as their family lost their home. All what we know is that she was friendly and welcoming when the field rescue went to pick her up and behaved quite well with the veterinary team(treats helping, of course). Arhiya is already spayed, did well on her behavior evaluation and is 100% ready to go home with you...today. Come and meet this lovely dame at the Manhattan Care Center. What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I am a sweet, shy, older gal, looking for the perfect forever home! I am a cat that is in need of a lap! I can't wait to be your new lap cat. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Calm,Sweet,Curious
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: New home adjustment period
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Ahriya was resting curled up with her head tucked in her and tail wrapped around her body upon approach. When spoken to and opening the door, she chirps and sniffs treats offered. She curiously sniffs the assessor's hand, welcomes petting on the head, and leans in hard for cheek rubs. When stroking her back, she crouches down and keeps her body and tail low. When reaching around and rotating her body, she tenses up a little bit. During pick up, she remains tense, softly stress meows, and pushes against the assessor's body when briefly held. After placing her back down, she continues to tolerate more petting and she leans in, rolls over, and stretches her neck of for more cheek and chin rubs. Ahriya interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience and demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
