Summary:: According to Bricks's previous owner(s), he is friendly, outgoing, and playful with familiar dogs and tolerant/playful with unfamiliar dogs off leash. No on leash experience with unfamiliar dogs. Lived with another dog. 06/09/26 Bricks is introduced to a novel female while off leash. He readily approaches the gate with a neutral frame and will sniff the female before marking along the fenceline.

Summary (5):: 7/20/26: Bricks was at front of kennel with a neutral body where he was easily leashed and taken for a street walk. Coming out of kennel Bricks pulled hard and would shuffle from moderate to hard pulling for the duration of his walk. As he was walking a person on a bicycle passed by and Bricks lunged at the bike pulling the handler. He was returned to his kennel with no further issue. 7/17/26: It is reported on the behavior board that Bricks jumped to grab the leash on return but was easily distracted by treats and a squeaker. 7/17/26: It is reported via white board that Bricks is leash biting during return; treats or toys don't work to distract or redirect. 7/14/26 (Trainer Note): Bricks was at the front of kennel, all four paws on the floor, on approach. he pulled moderately towards the training room. Once in the training room he engaged with a snuffle mat before moving on to touch. He was receptive to touch for several rounds before losing interest. He remained difficult to focus for the remainder of the session and opted into pets instead. His kennel return was unremarkable. 7/12/26: Bricks is at the front of the kennel jumping up and down. He is panting and when the kennel is unlocked, Bricks begins tapping his feet. It is observed that his neck area below the mouth appears wet. Bricks is easily leashed and pulls hard out of the room. He is taken to the street and relieves himself. Bricks walks with mild pulling as he is walked back to the shelter. He passes people and dogs without issue. In the shelter, he approaches people with a soft body and wagging tail and play bows and pulls forward towards another. Bricks then pulls back to kennel and is returned without issue.

Summary (6):: 7/12/26: It is reported via white board that Bricks is leash biting on return. 7/7/26 (Trainer Note): It should be noted that earlier in the day trainer observed Bricks jumping up at the kennel door. When trainer approached later in the afternoon, Bricks was sitting calmly at front of kennel. He was leashed with a treat lure and walked with minimal puling towards any doors. Once in the training room he was able to engage in the ping pong game going from one snuffle mat to the other. He was able to fully settle and laid down in the room towards the end of the session. He returned to kennel without showing interest in other dogs or external stimuli. 7/7/26: Bricks is observed to jump up high in kennel when the room is semi-active. 7/5/26: Bricks is laying in his kennel. As handler approaches, Bricks comes forward and sits. Bricks takes treats and is easily leashed. He pulls towards the exit as they leave the kennel room and building. Bricks greets passersby and excitedly jumps up at familiar handlers. On the walk Brick walks on a loose leash and has a neutral body. He is returned to kennel with no issues. 6/28/26 (Assessment): Bricks greeted handler with a loose and wiggly body. He is easily leashed and pulled from kennel. HE displayed no reactivity to people while walking. He pulled lightly and walked slightly ahead of handler. He was taken to behavior room for an assessment (Please see assessment notes for details). He was social with handlers during assessment. Bricks was returned to kennel with no issue. 6/27/26: Bricks is at the front of the kennel with a soft body and wagging tail. He is easily leashed and taken out of the kennel. Bricks pulls out of the room and jumps up onto handlers exuberantly. He is taken to the street where he observes dogs with a tense body and perked ears. Handler uses squeakers to redirect him and he looks to the handler briefly before looking away. Bricks attempts to redirect him with squeakers again and he pays no attention to it. Handler tosses treats and he chases after then before eating them eagerly. A dog is barking and he continues to look back towards the dog with perked ears. Handler calls to him and tosses treats but Bricks continues to look back towards the dog. Bricks relieves himself a few times. He is then walked back to the shelter. Upon returning to the shelter, Bricks pulls quickly towards passing people. He is scrambling towards them while pulling moderately. Bricks is kept away and he is redirected with treats. Bricks is then walked back to his kennel and is returned without issue.

Summary (7):: 6/27/26: Bricks has been observed to jump up very high in kennel and barks when staff pass his kennel. 6/20/26: Bricks is standing at the front of his kennel with a soft body and wagging tail. He takes a treat. He sniffs at the leash and allows easy leashing. He passes the crates with no reaction. He is brought to the street where he walks beside or in front of the handler with a neutral body. He relieves himself. He sits for treats, which he takes with a soft mouth. He pulls lightly towards passersby with a loose body. He allows leash clipping and returns to kennel with ease. 6/16/26 (Trainer note): Bricks was at the back of kennel on approach and came up to the front when handler approached. He had a relaxed body on approach and sat at the left front of kennel. His commissure remined loose as he took treats. Bricks remained at front of kennel as handler retreated. 6/11/26: It is noted on the whiteboard that Bricks growled when a sling is used as he baulks on return. 6/10/26: Bricks is staying in front of his kennel with neutral body when handler approaches. He is easily leashed with a treat lure and taken out of the room. Bricks pulls hard in the hallways all the way out. Once outside, he pulls hard while crossing the street and after some time relieves himself. Bricks continues walking with mild pulling slightly ahead of the handler. Bricks doesn't react towards other dogs or people passerby. Bricks is not engaging with handler and is not interested in treats. His body is neutral and he is aloof most of the time. Bricks pulls harder on the way back, but handler is able to pre-clip the leash and run him back into the kennel with no further issues. 6/9/26: Bricks is observed to be banging at the kennel door. The room is not active with people but neighboring dogs are barking. 6/7/26: It is reported that when a handler approached Bricks while in his crate he began growling at them. It is noted that Bricks was unable to be taken out for his AM walk. 6/5/26: Bricks was lying at back of kennel when handler approached. He was easily leashed and pulled from kennel and taken for a street walk. On the street would stop when something would surprise him (loud noise, someone on the sidewalk, etc). Handler was able to get him started back up with vocal encouragement. When returning to his kennel he stopped and laid on the room floor. Handler had to use chicken and get other handlers to assist in returning him to kennel.

ENERGY LEVEL:: Bricks is described as active and enthusiastic. They will need daily mental and physical activity to keep them engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm. We recommend feeding with puzzle feeders and food-dispensing toys. And we recommend using force-free, reward-based training techniques for Bricks.

Potential challenges comments:: Basic Manners: Bricks' previous owner states that he will jump up often or non stop. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Sit" and "Off" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach them to control their impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward-based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners. Handling Sensitivity: Bricks' previous owner states that he is fearful when held or restrained. During his medical exam Bricks began to flail when he was palpated. Positive reinforcement, reward based training should be used to pair touch with good things such as food rewards in order to teach Bricks to be more comfortable with this. Please see handout on Handling and Touch Sensitivity. Fearful Defensive: Bricks' previous owner states that he will bark and growl when startled. During their medical exam, Bricks was observed to flail. While in his crate Brick is observed to growl at handlers when they approach him. It is important to move slowly with Bricks, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people. They should never be forced to greet or to interact if they are not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression. Leash Biting: Bricks is observed to jump up and bite the leash when being returned to kennel. This behavior is not easy to redirect. We recommend walking them with a toy to dissuade them from grabbing the leash. Positive reinforcement, force-free training is advised to teach them to focus on you rather than grabbing the leash. Please see handout on Leash Manners. Leash Pulling: Bricks' previous owner states that he will pull hard while on leash. It is recommended that they be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which will help diminish their strength through leverage, and that they be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash.
