Animal Profile

Snow White

Hello, my name is Snow White. My animal id is #255055. I am a desexed female white cat at the Staten Island Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 years 1 months old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 5/24/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- eviction.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Snow White is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display challenging, distance increasing behaviors. During cleaning hours, she is quick to lunge, hiss, and swat out at staff. These behaviors make successful interactions difficult. Upon arriving at the care center, she tolerated minimal pets and currently does not tolerate any form of handling. It is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. Snow White would benefit from a low traffic home with an experienced adopter. Medically, she is overweight and has mild dental disease.

I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. Meet Snow White! We don't know too much about Snow White's backstory but we're trying to get to know her a little better. As a new addition to the shelter, she is still trying to unwind and get comfortable in a new environment with a lot of stimuli. Our hope is with time and a patient adopter Snow White can fully decompress in an environment where she feels safe and respected. She'd do best in an adult-only home where she's given the choice to interact on her terms. Positive reinforcement through treats and toys will definitely help her along, too. Think you can be her Prince Charming? Some to SIACC and say hello to Snow White today!

Behavior Condition: 2. Blue

KNOWN HISTORY:: Snow White was brought in with limited information on her behavior history in a home environment. She lived with two other cats in the previous home.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 6/1/26: Snow White is laying in the cubby of her kennel as staff arrives. She has tense posture and wide eyes, backing up and crouching into the corner. She hisses at staff periodically as cleaning procedures are completed. Treats are offered, but she does not show interest in them. When staff goes to leave, Snow White crawls out of the cubby with a low body and quickly flees into the lower cubby. She sits in her litter box, watching staff closely. They offer slow blinks, but she does not return them. 6/9/26: Snow White is laying in the cubby of her kennel upon arrival. She hisses at staff, with tense posture and wide eyes. She hisses, spits, and swats at staff from the cubby as cleaning procedures are completed. Treats are offered at the end of the interaction, but she does not show interest in them. 6.15 Snow white was in her top cubby upon approach. When staff lifted the cover she lunged at the glass and hissed. Staff let her be and continued cleaning. Staff had to block her cubby with a den cover because she was coming out of the cubby swatting hissing and spitting. Staff kept the interaction very short to prevent more stress. 6/22: Snow White is laying in her cubby as staff arrives. She hisses and lunges at staff as cleaning procedures are started. A litter box is used to block the portal to access her food and water bowls, and she swats at it, hitting it frequently. Snow White continues to hiss, lunge, and swat throughout the entire interaction. Treats are offered, but she does not show interest in them. She remains in her cubby, maintaining slightly tense posture as staff finishes.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Skittish,Independent

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period

Potential challenges comments:: Snow White has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 6/26: Snow White is sitting at the front of her cubby. As she notices the handler, she hisses and lunges forward, hitting the cubby door with her head. The handler remains still and offers her slow blinks. She watches and begins to growl. When she stops growling, the handler slowly rests a scratcher tool near her. She hisses as it approaches and then sniffs when the tool is settled down. She looks at the handler who offers more slow blinks. When the tool is picked up and moved near her, she quickly hisses and smacks the tool hard several times. She has airplane ears as she hisses and then darts out of the cubby. As the tool is removed, she darts back inside the cubby. Snow White turns around and lunges out at the handler, letting out another hiss. 5/26: Snow White is laying inside of her litter box with airplane ears and constricted pupils. She lets out several hisses as the handler reaches for the cubby door. They give her slow blinks, and once she stops, they slowly open the cubby door. She hisses again and then begins to growl. She is given more slow blinks and her eyes become rounded. She then blinks back a few times. A scratcher tool with squeeze up is slowly extended out to her. She hisses at the scratcher tool before leaning forward to sniff, but does not interact further. The tool is rested near her and once she stops hissing, they lift the tool to pet her. She tolerates pets on top of her head and along her body. As the scratcher tool is being removed, she lets out another hiss. Snow White tolerates minimal attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
