Celeste is in need of emergency placement for behavior reasons. Celeste is incredibly anxious in the care center. At times her anxiety is so high her tongue begins to turn blue. She has been very tolerant with staff and allows to be picked up and held in attempts to comfort her. When on walks, she will pull back to the building or flail at the end of the leash refusing to walk. Medically, Celeste has been coughing. Medical staff noted this may be from pulling on leash vs inflammation vs infection vs other.

What my friends at ACC say about me: I would do best in a home without very tiny humans (no children 5 & under), although I could be open to older human children once I meet them. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I am playful and cute! I am looking for a home with a patient person. It could be with you! Click here to learn more about the adoption process!

Summary:: 3/4: Celeste greets a M MMB at the gate with soft body, wagging tail.

Summary (2):: 3.21- When staff approached Celeste's kennel, she was loose, wiggly and easily leashed. She jumps out of kennel and goes right to the door, she pulls away from the door going further into the hallway leading handler to the opposite end of the hallway. Staff had to pick her up and carry her outside to the yard. Once in the yard, a drag leash was attached and she follows staff to the bench. She jumps on the bench and is vibrating with a wide open mouth, unable to relax. Another staff member enters the yard and she greets exuberantly. She continued panting, wide eyed and shaking. Staff member sits down and she sat between both legs remaining visibly anxious. 03.18 Celeste is found at the front of her kennel pacing back and forth, panting, with forward ears. She is easily leashed but as soon as she approaches the exit door she starts to balk, refusing to go outside. Staff member picks her up and places her in the yard, Celeste tries to run out before the gate is closed. In the yard Celeste paces and whines at the gate pawing at it in attempt to escape. She pants, yawns, and begins coughing. Eventually she runs over to staff member hiding between their legs and attempting numerous times to crawl into the lap. Celeste is uncaring of toys and treats. She relieves herself and pulls hard on the way inside. She is easily placed back into her kennel. 3/17: Celeste is seen panting, pacing and barking in her kennel. Upon approach she play bows and has a wiggly body. She is easily leashed but once they exit the room, she pulls back away from the door, flailing on the end of the leash. Handler allows her to lead the way and she relieves herself in the hall. She is able to exit through the other door but pulls back to enter the building once outside. Handler jogs her into the yard and she follows. She is coaxed over to the back bench and staff attempts to keep her attention with vienna sausages. She ignores at first but begins to accept after some time. She then jumps across the lap of the staff member and leans in hard, panting heavily, wide open mouth. She allows staff to hold her close to her body to attempt to give her some comfort. At the end of the session she jumps into kennel and begins to bark and whine once the door is closed.

Summary (3):: 03.13 Celeste is at the front of her kennel with a wiggly body and round eyes. She is easily leashed and hesitates to go outside. Staff member picks her up not wanting to choke her out with the rope. In the yard Celeste shivers and whimpers. She begins coughing, and does so the entire time in the yard. She hides under staff member's legs eventually crawling into their lap and burying her head into their sleeve. Celeste allows pets to her head and body, but any movement too quick she flinches and cowards. Celeste relieves herself and then its time to head back inside. She hops right back into her kennel without issue. 03.03 Celeste is at the front of her kennel when staff member arrives. She is panting with forward ears and a high wagging tail. She begins whining and pawing at the door as staff member opens it. Celeste is easily leashed and taken for a walk. The first thing Celeste does is relieve herself however when she's done she hears the dogs barking inside adoptions and pancakes to the floor wailing. She begins pulling staff member staying low to the ground until her tongue is blue. Staff member walks her away from the loud noise and tries to coax her rubbing her chest and holding the leash to not choke her out. The walk is ended and Celeste does a dog-to-dog interaction through the gate with Mefford. During the interaction Celeste maintains a wiggly body and wagging tail sniffing Mefford through the gate. Celeste is taken back to her kennel but refuses to go inside so staff member picks her up and encourages her in.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 2

Recommendations:: No young children (under 5)

Recommendations comments:: No young children (under 5): Due to being highly anxious in the care center, we recommend a home with no young children.

Potential challenges: : Anxiety

Potential challenges comments:: Anxiety: Celeste appears anxious at the care center, pacing and seeking exit during her assessment. We have no history on her behavior in a home environment, so we do not know if this will occur outside of the care center. If it does appear in a future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving her other things to focus on to alleviate her anxiety. Positive reinforcement, force-free training only should be used.
