Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormKinder Egg is at risk due to behavioral reasons. During his trial adoption Kinder Egg redirected onto the trial adopter after lunging towards a member of the public. This bite was a bite and hold that broke skin and left a puncture wound. His trial adopter and his previous owner both state that he will bark at other dogs. During his previous stay Kinder Egg was observed to be soft bodied with handlers. However, in the kennel, he would present with hard barking, baring teeth, and jumping up on the kennel door. Medically, Kinder Egg has otitis externa.

The trial adopter asked the MOP to please stop walking, the woman then walked a bit closer before stopping around 10 feet away. Kinder Egg lunged and while the trial adopter pulled him back, he redirected onto their left front thigh. He held on for a second and then released on his own. This bite left a small circular puncture wound with a bit a flesh visible. Kinder Egg's previous owner states that he will bark at other dogs. Due to the detailed behaviors we recommend an experienced adult only home.

Summary:: Kinder was returned to MACC due to a bite incident. On 1/27 around 10:30am, Kinder was on a walk with their trial adopter (TA). While on the walk, a member of the public (MOP) began walking towards them on a thin path due to the snow. The TA asked the MOP to please stop walking, the MOP then stopped approximately 10 feet away. Kinder lunged and when the TA pulled him back, he redirected onto their left front thigh. This bite was a bite and hold which Kinder released on his own. The bite resulted in broken skin and a small circular puncture wound with a bit of flesh visible. The TA was able to bring Kinder back home without further issue. The TA cleaned the wound with antibiotic ointment and placed a bandage on it. They plan on going to urgent care. During his previous stay, Kinder was observed to jump up on the kennel door while hard barking and baring teeth. While out of kennel Kinder was reported to be social with handlers and allowed petting with a soft body. Due to the severity of the bite Kinder Egg is not a candidate for a handling assessment at this time.
Summary:: 11/28/25: Kinder Egg greets another dog at the gate with a tense low body. He moves away and does not reapproach. 12/16/25: Kinder Egg greets another dog at the gate with a tense body whilst barking and digging at the gate.
Summary (5):: 02/03/26 (late note): On 01/27/26 The trainer spoke with the TA regarding Kinder Egg's reactivity. TA stated that Kinder Egg will lunge and bark at people and dogs on the street. TA stated that she had bought a prong collar, but had cancelled the order. The trainer began to ask more questions regarding Kinder Egg's reactivity and anxiety when outside. The trainer then heard Kinder Egg barking excessively and the TA shouting. TA was talking to the trainer whilst on a walk, so the trainer advised the TA to come back inside for everyone's safety and continue the conversation when they were both back indoors. TA said she would call back in 10-15 minutes. TA called the trainer three minutes later and was shouting and crying saying that Kinder Egg had reacted to a MOP walking towards them and redirecting onto her. TA struggled to create space between Kinder Egg sand the MOP due to narrow walkways in the snow. TA asked the MOP for more space and they did not listen which is when Kinder Egg, lunged and barked. TA attempted to tighten Kinder Egg's leash which is when Kinder Egg redirected and bit the TA on the leg. The trainer asked if Kinder Egg had drawn blood, at which point the TA explained that she was still outside. The trainer advised to go indoors and put Kinder Egg somewhere separate and to call back. TA called back five minutes later and was crying and kept shouting "I can see meat". At this point, the trainer advised that the TA go to urgent care and to organize getting picked up either by field or the police. Trainer then contacted adoptions about the situation and made arrangements to have Kinder Egg picked up.
Summary (6):: 2/2/26: As handler approaches the kennel, Kinder Egg begins to bark when they are still five feet away. Once the handler reaches the kennel, Kinder Egg is leaping into the air and into the sides of his kennel, still demand barking. Treats are tossed and he stops barking and stands on the floor with his tail wagging high and eats the treats. As the handler turns to walk away, Kinder Egg hard barks and growls. Interaction is ended. 1/29/26: (KSV) Kinder Egg is observed to be hard barking, growling and muzzle punching his kennel door with a tense body as handlers attempt to move him over through the transfer door to clean him. He would continue to hard bark towards the handlers after taking treats. He would stop barking when the handlers walk away. So the handlers then exit the room. He then moves to the next kennel on his own. When the handlers return to close the transfer door, he begins hard barking and jumping at the door again. 1/28/26: Kinder Egg is laying at the front of the kennel with a neutral body initially. When the handler speaks in a soft tone Kinder Egg becomes extremely tense and begins hard staring at the handler. The handler tosses a few treats and initially Kinder Egg is not receptive. When the handler tosses more treats he eventually begins eating them. Kinder Egg remains very tense.
Summary (7):: 1/12/26: When a staff member walks by Kinder Egg's kennel they jump on the door with their front paws and hard barks. 1/9/26: Kinder egg hard barks briefly with tense body as handler approaches kennel. When leash is presented and treats are dropped into kennel Kinder Egg takes treats and immediately becomes softer in body. Kinder Egg is easily leashed, exits kennel with minimal pulling. On sidewalk Kinder Egg is soft in body, social with handler, checks in visually for verbal cues, understands sit and takes treats gently. Kinder Egg allows all petting with soft body. Kinder Egg is walked back to MACC and enters kennel without issue, takes treats dropped in. 1/7/26: Kinder Egg is at the front of the kennel, hard barking, baring teeth and jumping up on the kennel door as the handler passes. 12/16/25- Kinder egg is at the front of his kennel with a loose and wiggly body, he is easily leashed and taken to the play yard. He is brought to the last pen and is social with handler. He gently takes treats and jumps on handler, they scratch his back and he fully stretches. He then jumps down and sniffs around the pen and relieves himself. He allows handler to scratch at his head, neck, chin and back. He is loose and wiggly throughout then is taken for his dog dog. After he is easily clipped and returned to his kennel without issue. 12/6/25: Kinder Egg is at the front of his kennel with a loose body. He is easily leashed and brought out the room. While riding the elevator, Kinder Egg jumps on the handler with a soft body and allows pets. On the street, Kinder Egg walks ahead with no leash tension. He shows no dog reactivity and has slight interest in passersby. Kinder Egg jumps on the handler again with a soft body and allows pets. When walking in the building, Kinder sniffs a staff member. The handler clips their leash and returns Kinder Egg to kennel. 11/17/25: Koda is lying towards the front of his kennel with a neutral body upon approach. He is then easily leashed and would have a hard pull out of the room with a low body. Koda is then taken to the street where he would begin to walk on a loose leash ahead of the handler, avoiding contact from the handler and walking with a low body and tucked tail. He wouldn't react towards any passing stimuli and is then brought back to the assessment office, where he would begin to pant and explore the room. He would slightly lip lick and tremble when handler went to pet him, shortly after he is then easily collared. Once the assessment is over, he would begin to cower and get startled which he darted back towards his kennel. Interaction was then ended.
Date of intake:: 11/16/2025
Summary:: Allowed leashing and handling
Date of initial:: 11/17/2025
Summary:: Tense body for exam. Tolerated tasks.
ENERGY LEVEL:: Koda is described as medium energy. They will need daily mental and physical activity to keep them engaged and exercised. And we recommend using force-free, reward-based training techniques for them.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No young children (under 13): Due to on leash reactivity and bite history we recommend an adult only home. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.
Potential challenges: : Destructive behavior,Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful,Separation anxiety,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Bite history (human)
Potential challenges comments:: Handling Sensitivity: Koda's previous owner states that he does not like when his paws are touched. Positive reinforcement, reward based training should be used to pair touch with good things such as food rewards in order to teach Koda to be more comfortable with this. Please see handout on Handling and Touch Sensitivity. Fearful: Koda has been obsvered to have a tense body, low tail, and lip licks when handlers attempt to interact. Koda would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period. Bite History (Human): Please see bite history above for more details. Please see handout on Bite History and Potential for Future Aggression. Separation Anxiety/ Destructive Behavior: Koda's previous owner states that he will become anxious when he is left alone in the house and will become destructive. We recommend that potential adopters feel comfortable with separation anxiety behaviors and be prepared to manage and positively modify them should they appear in a home environment. They would do best in a home where a person is home for a large part of the day or with a plan so they are not alone for long periods of time. Please see handout on Separation Anxiety. On Leash Reactivity: Koda's previous owner states that he will bark at other dogs. During one instance with the trial adopter Koda redirected onto them after lunging towards a member of the public. Koda will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs and other stimuli. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.
