Summary (6):: 9/22/26: It is reported that Eddie lunged persistantly at multiple people while on the street. 9/22/26: It is reported that Eddie lunged at a person on the street last week. 9/18/26 [assessment]: Eddie is lying down at the front of his kennel when the handler approaches. The handler easily leashes him with a treat lure and takes him out of the kennel. Eddie walks alongside the handler through the hallways with no interest in other pop-up crates or staff members. Once outside, he relieves himself in the driveway and continues walking next to the handler with mild to none leash tension. He sniffs and discovers certain areas on the street and relieves himself a few more times during the walk. He has no reaction toward dogs, people passing by, or other stimuli on the street. Eddie is receptive to treats, allows petting, and follows verbal cues. His body is neutral. After the walk, Eddie is taken to the Canine Behavior office for the assessment (see notes). On return, handler pre-clips the leash and brings Eddie back into his kennel with no further issues. 9/16/26: Eddie is reported to jump on strangers with a loose body while walking on the street. 9/16/26: Eddie was observed to be barking and vocalizing loudly towards dogs that were observed in the hallway. He is heavily panting and looking back and forth.

Summary (7):: Notes from previous stay at ACC: 7/2/25: Eddie is sleeping in his popup crate when approached for AM walk. He remains laying down but begins pawing at the bars. He is removed from crate and he leans into handler’s legs accepting pets. Harness is clipped with ease. He is taken outside where he immediately relieves himself. He walks by handler’s side for the duration of the walk, only leading ahead of handler a few times. He pulls slightly harder towards a dirt patch and then defecates. He remains by handler’s side while handler cleans it up. He stops many times to scratch underneath his harness with his hind feet. He lowers his body to the ground and chases each bird we pass by, at one point fixating and staring at one. His attention is redirected with baby voice and mild leash pressure, and he continues walking with no further issue. He sniffs every patch of dirt, picking up sticks and other items with his mouth. Handler tosses a treat and he drops the item and keeps walking with mild leash pressure. He is then walked back to shelter and returned to pop-up crate by tossing a treat. 7/1/25: Eddie is sitting in the middle of his popup crate when the handler lifts the sheet to greet him. Soft talk is used and a treat is given which Eddie sniffs but does not take. The handler moves to the door and unlatches. Eddie paws briefly at the door before stopping and allowing the slip lead to be placed. Easily walked out of his kennel and allows a leash to be clipped on his harness. No issue walking on a short leash through the building to the street where he immediately relived himself. walks along side the handler with a loose leash, looking towards passing strangers but otherwise not reacting. no reaction to passing street construction including a jack hammer across the street which was quite loud. on the street he took treats gently, and would sit on command. no issue walking back into the building. Upon arriving back at the client care area he became a little excited but quickly sat on command. a treat was tossed to the side and the slip lead clipped without issue. treat tossed into pop up and he re-entered without issue. 6/17/25: Eddie is sitting at the front of the kennel when the handler approaches. He is easily leashed and brought to the assessment room. A collar and drag leash is attached to him. When he is loose in the office Eddie has a loose and wiggly body. He will jump up on the handler with a loose body, and attempt to get in their lap. Eddie will offer the cue sit and takes treats softly. When being returned to kennel Eddie pauses in front of the kennel. Handler tosses treats and he readily enters.

ENERGY LEVEL:: Eddie is described as high energy. He will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. We recommend feeding with puzzle feeders and food-dispensing toys. And we recommend only force-free, reward-based training techniques for Static.

Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to Eddie's handling sensitivity, resource guarding and poor impulse control we recommend an Adult only household. Place with a New Hope Partner: Due to Eddie's handling sensitivity, resource guarding and poor impulse control we recommend he be placed with a New Hope Partner. Eddie came into ACC as an owner surrender. Eddie was surrendered because his previous owner did not have enough time to care for Eddie. During his time in the care center Eddie has been noted to have handing sensitivities, he has been tense and panting when handled here. Eddie is also noted to love alligator toys and he has been social with staff. His previous owners note that he will snap when his paws are touched. In his previous home Eddie was noted to lunge and snap at dogs on leash, in the care center we have seen Eddie bark and vocalize loudly towards dogs. Eddie is also noted to resource guard in the home environment, escalating to snapping and attempting to bite over toys. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: Eddie's previous owner note that Eddie will snap, attempt to bite, growl or hard bark when he has a toy. We recommend that Eddie be left alone while around toys, and that toy guarding behavior modification steps (available at ASPCApro.org) be utilized if this behavior is problematic in his future home. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Eddie's mouth, and any time something is removed he should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. He should be taught the "drop" cue and trade-up games. Please see hand out on Resource Guarding. Basic manners/poor impulse control: Eddie is noted to jump up on people in a social manner. Eddies previous owners note that he doesn't sit still in cars, and that he attempts to climb into front seat and into drivers lap. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Leave it", "Sit/Stay", "Down" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach her to control her impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Eddies previous owners note that he will lunge at dogs on leash and that Eddie has lunged at a child in a playful manner, but more details were not given. while in the care center Eddie has been noted to lunge at people on leash. Eddie may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach him to look at you rather than other people. We recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior. Please see hand out on Leash Manners. Strength/leash pulling: Eddie is a very large, strong dog with the capability to pull over an average adopter. His adopter must be prepared and able to handle a dog of this size and strength. It is recommended that he be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which help diminish his strength through leverage, and that he be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash.
