Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Zeus is at risk for behavioral reasons. Zeus came to us as an owner surrender after his owner experienced personal matters and was no longer able to care for him. Zeus is described as a friendly, energetic dog who loves to be pet and enjoys playing fetch and tug. Though he is also reported to express distance increasing behaviors around unfamiliar people and can become weary. At the care center, Zeus has exhibited a high stress response and has allowed for only minimal handling and seems to become tense around other dogs. Zeus would be best suited for placement with a new hope partner that can provide a low stress environment to better evaluate his behavior and provide the necessary gradual behavior modification and management and should seek an experienced adopter. Medically, Zeus was diagnosed with canine infectious respiratory disease complex which is contagious to other animals and will need further care.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

A staff member writes: "Rather than aiming to be king of the gods, our Zeus is aiming to be king of your heart! His previous owner reported that he takes time to warm up to unfamiliar people. While he hasn't had that breakthrough at the shelter, Zeus may be waiting for the right loyal subjects. Those subjects who will be patient and respectful and allow Zeus to grow into the mighty king he could be. Is that person you?"

Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 5. Red

Zeus was anxious when he came into the admissions office but did allow petting. He jumped up and nipped with moderate pressure at counselors clothes, he did not love when counselors tried to take his chain off. Over time once the owners left Zeus began hard barking at people coming into the room and got more anxious. He was able to be handled though and took a lot of treats.

He barks in an excited way and exuberantly wags his tail and takes treats. When I visit him again an hour later, he is very subdued. He is sitting at the front of his kennel and stands when I approach. He does not bark or wag his tail. I offer him a treat and he takes it calmly. He then sits without me asking and a give him a few more treats. He remains calm and quiet during this interaction.
