Tiger Blue

Hello, my name is Tiger Blue. My animal id is #255309. I am a desexed female tabby cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 5/24/2026.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Tiger Blue is on the at-risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Tiger Blue was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on the behavior history in a home environment. Upon intake, Tiger was minimally handled by counselors and was transferred from the trap to a den. During intake, Tiger tails had dilated pupils, a crouched and tense body with ears back. Tiger displayed some offensive behavior signs when in the trap like growling and hissing. Once in the den Tiger swatted and lunged repeatedly at the dens door.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 5/29/26 FB58 Hissing and lunging in den as I am interacting with Exabyte. As I close the den portal, she is lunging and growling, swatting out of the opening. When I remove the den cover, she is low growling with eyes wide and dilated, ears tilted, face and body tense, tail wrapped tightly around her feet. I sit sideways and talk to her, giving her time to settle down in any way - and it times for her to take some steps back and not be immediately ready and at the front to lunge. She remains tense with her eyes wide and dilated, with her ears tilted. I mark with "good job" when she looks away and replace her den cover which she hisses and lunges at. She may be a good candidate for FCC, but for now we keep her den cover on. 6/2/26 FB06 An indirect interaction today, as I was moving around in the room and I would get close to his kennel, Tiger Tails would be inside his den, hissing and lunging. When I peeked at him through the gap in the cage cover and the door, I could see him crouched inside the den with wide eyes and hissing. 6/4/26 FB25 She is inside of her den. I can see her very wide, "glowing" eyes through the small crack not covered by the portal cover. I sit for a bit speaking softly to her and I use a scratcher tool to slowly push in a tray of squeeze up in front of the den opening. When I reach to move the portal cover, she lunges, spitting and swatting with fully flattened ears. I didn't want to stress her more so I left the cover in place. 6/09/26 FB25 Tiger Blue is inside of her den. I sit and talk softly, and slowly crack the kennel door to slide in a tray of squeeze up. She can be heard hissing. I use a scratcher tool to slide it toward the den opening, and she pops her head out. I close the kennel door and sit quietly, attempting slow blinks. She hisses and lunges several times, becoming more forward and defensive each time, until I leave her line of sight. She is still extremely fearful. 6/11/26 FB25 She is inside of her den. She hisses when I crouch down and begin speaking softly to her, and lunges and swats at the sound of the kennel lock being opened. I slip in some treats and she swats again, staying tucked away inside of the covered den. 6/15/26 FB61 In cat den upon approach. I offer some treats quickly and she does not immediately respond. I make my way around the room and when I check on her later She's out of her den eating her treats - which is great - but when she notices me she hisses repeatedly and swats over and over and over until she can't see me anymore. VERY high levels of fear and stress presented. Will continue to build positive associations. GAN

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Timid

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period

Potential challenges comments:: Please see relevant behavior flyers.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Tiger Blue is completely hidden inside her den upon approach. When the kennel door is opened, she can be heard quietly growling. The assessor slowly places scratcher tool with squeeze up on it in front of the den opening. Tiger lunges forward, swatting it forcefully and stress vocalizing. No further attempt was made to touch at this time. Tiger Blue is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat / scratch / bite / is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
