Cosmo is on the emergency placement list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

What my friends at ACC say about me: I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them. Please check here for updated adoption hours.

Remains crouched down and does not return to hide in den. 3/11/23 Cosmo was in the kennel appearing tense and then sniffed treats off the scratcher took and then moved into the other kennel and on top of the den staring hard at me and lip licking. Turns his head away and a I mark and leave. 3/14/23 Cosmo: he was on the top of the den and was staring at me. I gave sweet talk and when he lookup up and away I marked. Repeated exactly the same. Next interaction he was in the den looking out and staring at me and and I offered treats with the scratcher and he ignored them but didn’t react negatively so I marked. Forth visit he slow blinked at me through the den door and allowed treats again with scratcher and then slow blinked again and I marked. 3/18/23 Resting inside the cubby. Alert with eyes wide, starring upon approach. Accepts brief pets with the scratcher tool but began to retreat avoiding contact. 3/20/23 First visit he stared at me and his head would quiver slightly every few seconds, line a tremble. Second visit he was sleeping and I spoke to him and he work up and looked at me with a slightly slightly calmer appearance while continuing to rest head. 3d visit he stared at me much like the first time. 3/21/23 Resting upon approach but continues to show distant behavior. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Cosmo was resting inside the den. Alert with eyes wide, blank stare. Ears erect and forward. He briefly allows pets along the body with the scratcher tool but quickly ran out and into the second kennel avoiding contact.
