Level 3 Behavior Rating: Summary: This dog will need to go to a home with experienced adopters, and we suggest that the adopter have prior experience with the challenges described and/or an understanding of the challenge and how to manage it safely in a home environment. Dogs with Level 3 determinations will need to go to homes with experienced adopters, and we strongly suggest that the adopter have prior experience with the challenges described and/or an understanding of the challenge and how to manage it safely in a home environment. In many cases, we recommend consultation with a qualified, force-free, reward-based trainer in the future home. Some of the challenges seen at Level 3 are also seen at Level 1 and Level 2, but may be seen at a greater frequency and higher intensity. What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I need a home where there are no other dogs. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I don't always like to share my food, toys or bedding with other animals. I am playful and cute! Please check here for updated adoption hours. A volunteer writes: The name suits her even though Minnie isn't really that small. Still, she is a perfect size. Minnie is a lovely girl. She is a calm and gentle soul who makes no real demands. Minnie is happy playing around in the backyard. At the same time she will come over to check on you and get a few pets. She seems to fit in with whatever the moment calls for. You can meet Minnie at Manhattan ACC.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We recommend daily mental and physical activity for proper engagement and exercise.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 3

Recommendations:: Recommend no dog parks,No children (under 13)

Recommendations comments:: NO CHILDREN: Due to fearfulness and observed resource guarding, we feel that Minnie may be set up to succeed in an experienced, adult-only home. RECOMMEND NO DOG PARKS: Due to some of the discomfort Minnie has displayed while in proximity of other dogs (becoming tense or avoiding them), we believe she may better succeed outside of dog parks.

Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Resource guarding

Potential challenges comments:: RESOURCE GUARDING: Minnie may become tense and uncomfortable if toys in her possession are reached for. See handout on Resource Guarding/ FEAR/DEFENSIVE AGGRESSION: Minnie has appeared tense and fearful in the presence of new people or new environments. She may take additional time to warm up and become comfortable with handling or approach. See handout on Fear and Defensive Aggression.
