Let's get to know each other a bit more...

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Brandon needs at risk placement for medical reasons. He is a senior cat with diabetes mellitus. He needs a quiet home and out-patient care with a local veterinarian to manage his condition. A volunteer writes: Brandon was found in the street by a Good Samaritan and brought to the care center for us to find him a home. A veterinary technician wanted me to meet him. "He is such a nice cat, he loves his cuddles!" Indeed, Brandon is a lovely and sweet senior who enjoys company, even of two people at the same time...He purrs, head bunts and at the end of our petting session, he collapses on his side for more neck, head and chest scratches(see video). Brandon was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and is monitored and treated in the medical room. He is a good patient and we are hoping that soon enough his DM will be under control, sending Brandon on his way home with a new family. Brandon is a gentle oreo cookie whose general care seems to have been overlooked for a while. Let's hope that his "stop" by the Manhattan Care Center will be the beginning of a new, safe, healthy and happy life for Brandon. If you love the elderly and know how to manage diabetes mellitus, ask for our Brandon, meet him and hopefully, take him home. Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! Brandon interacts with the observer, appreciates attention and tolerates all petting. We recommend that he go to a home with adopters with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in uncomfortable with pick up.

Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow

KNOWN HISTORY:: Brandon was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment. Upon intake, Brandon had a loose, relaxed body. He poked his head out of the carrier curiously when it was opened, and allowed soft petting. He allowed staff to scan for a mc with ease and allowed staff to pick him up and place him in a kennel with ease.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow

VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty

CHARACTER TYPE: : Social,Calm,Sweet,Affectionate,Curious

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Uncomfortable with pick up

Potential challenges comments:: Brandon interacts with the observer, appreciates attention and allows all petting, but did not appear to like being picked up during their behavior evaluation. He struggled to get down when pick up was attempted. Please keep in mind there are many reasons why a cat may be uncomfortable with this type of handling and that this may not necessarily translate into a home environment. We recommend that he go to a home with adopters with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in not being comfortable with pickup. Any future home with children should be counseled in respecting the cat’s space and for the family to use care when picking him up, especially while they’re adjusting to their new home.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2

RECOMMENDATIONS:: No young children

Recommendations comments:: No children under 13 years old due to uncomfortable with pick up.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Brandon was laying down at the front of his kennel with soft eyes upon approach. He squinted contently during head pets, leaned into cheek rubs and allowed deep back strokes. When the assessor was putting gentle pressure under his belly, his ears tilted sideways and he stress-meowed. Pick up was not attempted. Brandon interacts with the observer, appreciates attention and tolerates all petting. We recommend that he go to a home with adopters with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in uncomfortable with pick up.
