Trunchbull
Hello, my name is Trunchbull. My animal id is #223812. I am a desexed female brown tabby cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 1 months 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 4/3/2025, with the surrender reason stated as other.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormTrunchbull is on the At Risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and is deteriorating. She is now displaying signs of frustration, overstimulation. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! A volunteer writes: The first time I met Trunchbull, she was hunched in a loaf with a furrowed brow, exasperatedly using her time to explain that she just wants a family. I gently suggested that perhaps hissing this out to Adoptions wasn't going to be the most effective strategy, but, undeterred, Trunchbull continued. I left some treats and left her talk a little early but knew I'd return later. The next time I visited, I was prepared for another hissy lecture shared between snacks, but to my surprise there was none to be had. All Trunchbull wanted were cuddles. Falling over her paws to climb into my lap, she only wanted to be close to me. Leaning into my hands like we've always been best friends, I think that's what Trunchbull is really looking for. A best friend and a family that will welcome her into their hearts and home.

Details on my behavior are...
Behavior Condition: 5. Red
During intakes minimum handling was done.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Trunchbull was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on her behavior history in a home environment. During intakes minimum handling was done.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 4/8/25 FB58 In her den and hidden from view - when I place down a tray with squeeze up, she hisses and then pokes her head out, face and shoulders tense and eyes wide. She begins to eat and I click to mark each time she does. She will pause and look at me lip licking before she returns to eating. Hisses and growls as I place a cover on her cage door. 4/13/25 Vol. Trunchbull was in her den. I could see her face peeking out. As soon as the kennel door was opened, I heard her swat the inside wall of the den. She hissed and grumbled continuously. I put some treats in the kennel and ended the interaction. She watched me from the opening of the den as I spoke softly to her, but she was not receptive to interacting with me today. 4/16/25 FB32 Lying down in loaf position with a neutral body and eyes. Becoming under the weather, coughing. When spoken to and opening the door, she hisses with her ears flattened, and then sneezes. She sits up and wipes the mucus off her nose with her paw. She ignores treats offered, and then growls when reaching close. Spent some time slow blinking, sweet talking, and clam in her presence. Kept interaction short to reduce stress. 4/17/25 FB32 Lying down in loaf position in litter box. Prepare for den transfer to bring to medical. Hisses when reaching close. Swats and bats and garbs and bites when attempting to nudge him through the portal door with the safety pole. 4/24/25 FB79 In the front of her kennel, Trunchbell has a relaxed face and body with a loose tail, forward ears and slightly wide eyes. She low meows when i open the kennel and head bunts my hand accepting pets before she gets distracted by the treats i place down and starts to enjoy. While eating her treats she tolerated all pets on her head and down her body with no reaction. 4/28/25 FB61 In cat den upon approach, initially hidden from view. I am able to lure her out with treats (she hisses initially) and I spend the first half of the session clicking and rewarding each time she steps forward for a new treat. By the end of the session she is allowing head pets while eating her temptations! Curious girl - still conflicted. Will continue to build positive associations. 4/30/25 FB58 In her den (moved to holding due to DOH-Scratch), tense face and body and low growls. I shake the box of treats and lightly toss some towards the back of the cage and she stops growling, coming partway out of the den to eat the treats tossed to her. She then comes out fully to continue the dry treats I placed at the front of the cage and watches me with a mostly neutral expression. She then low growls at me as I approach again but stops once I slip some squeeze up into the cage. Once she has finished the squeeze up, she starts to low growl again and when I slowly offer my hand out to the closed cage door, she hisses/spits with a raised paw. Possibly extra upset by the move from Sun Porch to Holding?? 5/5/25 FB79 GAN
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate
VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE: : Social,Shy ,Calm,Affectionate,Timid,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: Trunchbull can present conflicting behavior and appear interested in interactions but once the cage door is open, begin to low growl, hiss or lunge. Trunchbull has a previous scratch incident that occurred when a volunteer was attempting to get her litterbox in order to clean in. When they reached in to grab Trunchbull's litterbox, Trunchbull swatted their right hand leaving a small superficial scratch.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Trunchbull would do best in an adult-only home where they would be able to acclimate in a calm environment.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 4/6/25 Inside of the den, Trunchbull is backed into the corner with wide/dilated eyes; she starts to scan the room behind the assessor as her ears begin to tilt. She has no interest in treats that were offered and turned her head away when the assessor slowly brought their hand close so she can sniff. Trunchbull avoided eye contact with her body still crouched in the corner and hunched in shoulders as she tolerated pets on head as well as down and around her body but with no reaction. Pick up was not attempted at this time to limit FAS. 5/7/25 Upon re-eval, Trunchbull is at the front of her cage and rubbing along the cage door as the assessor is working in the room - she appears to be soliciting attention and watches them with a curious face, sitting with a neutral body. She vocalizes as they approach and as they open the cubby door slightly, she begins to low growl and they toss a few dry treats in before closing the cubby door. As the door is closed, she lunges and hisses at the glass. Appears to be returning to being more agitated, less tolerant of interaction but conflicted as she solicits attention. When the cubby door is opened again and the assessor slowly offers the Assess-A-Hand, Trunchbull lunges again and swats at the hand. Pick up is not attempted. Trunchbull is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, scratch, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate much petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
