She has also snapped when having her nails clipped, guarded her food, and lunged and howled at other animals while on leash. In the Care Centers, Tuna has been fearful and initially refused to walk, at times flinching when staff attempted to clip her collar. Over time, she has become more social and will engage with toys; however, she continues to refuse to return to her kennel. Medically, Tuna is apparently healthy.

Her previous owner reported that she is fearful of strangers and may hide, bark, and growl when approached. She has also snapped when having her nails clipped, guarded her food, and lunged and howled at other animals while on leash. In the Care Centers, Tuna has been fearful and initially refused to walk, at times flinching when staff attempted to clip her collar. Over time, she has become more social and will engage with toys; however, she continues to refuse to return to her kennel. Medically, Tuna is apparently healthy. In her previous home, Tuna was noted to hide, growl, and take time to become comfortable with new people. Once comfortable, she is friendly. Tuna is reported to guard her food and toys and lunge at other animals while on leash. In the Care Centers, Tuna has displayed fearful behaviors, including balking, flinching, and head whipping. Her previous owner reported that she knows sit, stay, and paw. Tuna should be placed in an adult-only home through a New Hope Partner who can appropriately manage her behavior using positive reinforcement.

Upon intake Luna was BAR, and fearful. Staff were able to pet, scan for m/c, and remove harness. Due to heavy flinching while scanning for m/c and removing harness, staff did not attempt to place ACC collar.

Basic Information:: Luna is a 2-year-old female LMB who was surrendered to ACC

How is this dog around strangers?: She is reported to hide, hard bark and growl initially with strangers once warmed up she is reported to be friendly and outgoing with strangers.

How is this dog around children?: She prefers contact on her own terms, tolerant, shy, and is friendly and outgoing with children.

How is this dog around other dogs?: She is reported to lunge and be friendly/outgoing with familiar dogs and unfamiliar dogs on leash. She has no experience with unfamiliar dogs off leash.

How is this dog around cats?: No experience

Resource guarding:: Resource guards' toy and food by hovering over with a tense body and hard barking/growling.

Bite history:: No bite history

Other Notes:: She is reactive on walks particular with animals she will bark, growl, howl, lunge and jump around animals. She has previously allowed her owners to trim her names she also escalated while her nails are being trimmed. She has snapped while her nails are being trimmed no contact was made when she snapped. She is reported to be unbothered when restrained and pushed pulled off furniture. When started she snaps. Previous owners have not disturbed her while sleeping.

For a New Family to Know: Luna is a social, affectionate, lazy, very playful LMB dog who enjoys spending her time where people are. She loves taking baths and knowns cues like ' sit" "stay" "paw". Lunas favorite toys are balls and has never been crate trained. She previously went on 3-4 walks a day with no specific length of time.

She was observed to balk on walks and flinch when staff clip their slip leads. Due to these behaviors, Tuna will not receive a handling assessment.

Summary:: According to Tuna's previous owner(s), she lunges and is friendly and outgoing with familiar and unfamiliar dogs on leash. She has no experience with unfamiliar dogs off leash. 08/19/26 Tuna is introduced to a novel male while off leash. She approaches the gate with a neutral frame and will sniff the male, becoming slightly tense and wary when the male jumps up onto the gate exuberantly.

Summary (7):: 8/30: Tuna remains easy to remove from her kennel and is loose and wiggly in the behavior office. She does become mouthy when soliciting petting, but there is no pressure. After her handling assessment, she carries a toy back to her kennel without issue. 8/25/26 (Trainer Note): Tuna is standing at the front of kennel with a neutral body as handler approaches. She is easily leashed and taken to the behavior office for a walk. She remains soft bodied in the room, socially approaching multiple handlers, leaning in and soliciting pets. She is uninterested in treats and toys, but continues approaching handlers. She is leashed and begins to balk in the room. With some coaxing and leash pressure she walks forward and is returned to her kennel without issue. 8/23/26: Tuna is standing at the front her kennel as handler approaches. She is able to be leashed with ease is then taken to the behavior room. In the room, she is comfortable the handlers to sniff team and would explore around. She would head whip when the handler goes to clip their leash and would baulk to the ground in the hallway while on the way back to her kennel. She is able to continue walking when the handler begins to jog and he has to then be muscled back inside of her kennel. 08/22/2026: Observed to be balking on the street when returning to care centers. High value treats, squeakers were not effective. Canine behavior member used leash pressure to return her back to kennel. 08/19/2026: Reported to be balking at the top of the ramp. Was not receptive to treats or squeakers, but managed to make it back to kennel using leash pressure.

Positive reinforcement should be utilized to teach Tuna to associate new people with things she likes such as treats and toys. Positive reinforcement training should be used to teach Tuna to check in with his adopters when he sees his triggers.
