Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Khaleesi is on the EPL for medical reasons. She was returned from foster due to a severe URI and anorexia; she was noted to have lost 2 lbs in less than one month. She is on supportive care, but will need a feeding tube and more aggressive care if she does not begin to eat in the next 24-48 hours. She is fearful and stressed in her kennel, but does allow some petting/handling.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them. I am playful and cute!

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/18/22 Khaleesi was in back of the kennel, watching me intently. I climbed on the ladder in order to see him at eye level and he ran to the cubby side. She laid in his litter box, barely moving. I spoke to her and gave her treats which she did not touch. Did not attempt to pet her because she was huddled up against the back wall, trying to avoid contact with me. 12/22/22 Lying by the front, looking around the room with dilated eyes. She tenses up when approached and focuses on me, but remains in place as long as I move slow. When petting is attempted, however, she retreats inside the cubby and grumbles. I offered squeeze ups on the scratcher but she doesn't eat unless I give her space. She tensed up when I returned but will eat in my presence afterwards so I continued to offer more to build a positive association. I was able to pet her but she remains stiff in place. 12/27/22 I see she is out at the front of her cage but as she sees me approach she moves quickly into her cubby and freezes with her limbs and tail tucked under her and her face and body tense. I slowly reach into the cubby offering her some squeeze up but she shows no interest and stares at me with wide and dilated eyes. She tolerates being touched but remains frozen and her ears tilt back. I speak softly to her and offer her some slow blinks before ending the interaction. 12/29/22 Sitting with tail and legs tucked under her and tail wrapped tightly at the back of her cubby behind her litterbox. She watches me frozen, with her ears forward and eyes wide and dilated. I offer her some puree treat on the scratcher tool but she shows no interest and doesn't move in any way. She allows me to pet along the top of her head with the tool but does not lean in. I offer her my hand and again she does not reach but allows me to pet her on the top of the head and along her cheeks while softly squinting her eyes. 01/01/23 Khaleesi was on the ledge in her kennel, behind a kennel cover, curled up in the back. I offered her Squeeze Up and Temptations but she would not eat them. I petted her with a stuffed toy to test her reaction before using my hand. She accepted all petting, with the toy and my hand, but did not respond either negatively nor positively. She is timid but gentle and is just learning to trust people. 1/5/23 Sitting in the corner of her cage with a low body and eyes lowered. When I offer her my hand slowly she ducks her head slightly and accepts pets while remaining frozen. She eventually begins to lean into the head pets slightly and allows petting along her back as well. She eventually seems to settle in a little and appreciates the petting. She is very gentle but remains unsure and scared.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Sweet,Playful,Timid

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3

RECOMMENDATIONS:: No young children

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Khaleesi is at the back of her cage with a tense and hunched low body, ears forward and eyes wide and dilated. When the assessor offers her the scratcher tool with treats on it, she doesn't lean forward to sniff it or the treats. She is tolerant of pets with the scratcher tool but tense and her ears tilt to the side. When the assessor slowly offers their hand, she dips her head down and allows petting along the top of her head and along her cheeks. Her ears are forward and she she remains tense and hesitant but settles down into a loaf position. Pick up was not attempted at this time to limit FAS. Khaleesi tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to the behavior shown, she may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced.
