At the gate Luna Park approaches pulling towards the gate. The novel female alert barks before doing the same. Both dogs scent one another at the gate. The novel male begins chasing Luna Park along the gate, fixating on her. Luna Park retreats from the gate, making distance. She stands next to the handler tracking the novel male as he displays hackles while running along the gate. The Luna Park does not return to the gate thus ending the interaction.

When a handler returns a small dog to its' kennel above hers, she is jumping up with her snout to the bars, snapping towards the little dog's legs. 03/17/25: Luna Park is standing at the front of kennel with a neutral frame as handler approaches. She becomes wiggly as handler unlocks the kennel door and is leashed with ease. As soon as she exits kennel, she jumps up toward the kennels above her, but handler quickly ushers her away. Luna Park walks on a loose lead to the Live Room where she is clipped to a drag lead and free to explore the space. She spends time investigating the room and will scent out a snuffle mat, engaging with it for several minutes. Luna will approach when handler calls to her and accepts petting with a neutral frame. She shows no interest in tossed toys. After her session, Luna Park is walked back to kennel. Once in front of kennel, Luna Park jumps up at the kennel above her and handler uses directional leash pressure to guide her down into kennel. 3/16/25: Luna Park is observed to paw, bite and vocalize at her kennel bars throughout the day. 3/15/25: Luna Park is observed to bite at her kennel bars and vocalize incessantly. 03/14/25: Luna Park is digging at her kennel door as handler walks through the room. Handler notices that her kennel card is falling out of the holder, so they approach to fix it. As handler picks up the kennel card, Luna Park hard barks twice and then begins baring teeth at handler. She continues until handler walks away. - 03/08/25 (assessment): Luna Park is standing at the front of kennel with a loose frame as handler approaches. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 4

Recommendations:: No children (under 13)

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13)- Due to Luna park Potential challenges we recommend she is placed an adult-only home at this time.

Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Basic manners/poor impulse control,Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Separation anxiety,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding- Luna Park is noted to resource guard food and will snap/ attempt to bite. Avoid forcing Luna Park to give up items or punishing her for resource guarding, as this can escalate her behavior. Consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement will be key in helping Luna Rock feel more comfortable sharing resources in her new home. Please see the handout on Resource guarding. Basic manners/poor impulse control- Luna park displays poor impulse control by jumping on handlers,These behaviors suggest a need for consistent training to improve her manners and impulse control. Using positive reinforcement and redirection will help manage these behaviors effectively. Please see handout on Basic manners/poor impulse control. Fearful/potential for defensive aggression/Handling/touch sensitivity-Noted to not be bothered when disturbed whole asleep, feet paws touched. fearful when startled and collar grabbed touched. snaps when pushed or pulled off furniture. Separation anxiety- It is noted Luna park is reported to be anxious when left alone.Gradual desensitization to being alone, creating positive associations with the crate, and providing comfort items can help alleviate his anxiety. Consulting a professional trainer or behaviorist may also be beneficial. Please see the handout on Separation anxiety. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration-Reacts to small animals and other dogs on walks and pulls toward them.Gradually decrease the distance while rewarding calm behavior with treats. Teach Luna Park alternative behaviors, such as focusing on you or performing a "sit" cue when she sees a trigger. Consistent training and positive reinforcement will help reduce her reactivity over time. Please see the handout on On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration.
