All Spice
Hello, my name is All Spice. My animal id is #234406. I am a desexed male unknown (update later) cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 8/15/2025.
All Spice is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is an under socialized adult cat and is not thriving in the care center. He continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping an under socialized and fearful cat adjust to strangers and new environments.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.

KNOWN HISTORY:: All Spice was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on his/her behavior history in a home environment.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 8/20/25 FB58 Sitting on the shelf with a tense face and body, eyes wide and dilated. He hisses at the tool and tolerates touch but remains tense and wary, continuing to hiss each time contact is made with the tool. Treats are left. 8/27/25 FB61 Hunched in back of vertical space, body and face tense with pupils dilated and tail wrapped around his body. He watches me for the duration of our session while slow-blinking hard and remaining otherwise frozen. He does not engage with the treats or the catnip toy offered. I speak to him softly and return slow-blinks before ending the session. Nervous and handsome. 9/05/25 FB61 All spice is hunched in the back of his perch as I approach, face and body tense, ears forward and his feet and tail tucked. All spice remains frozen as I gently tossed treats towards him and he is tolerant of petting on his cheeks and head with the scratcher tool while remaining still and keeping his eyes focused on me. When I check on allspice later, I see all of the treats have been eaten and he is sitting with his toy placed between his two front paws. He is so cute and shy. He also has great cheeks.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: On the top part of the den, All Spice is perched with his paws tucked away, neutral eyes, forward ear and his tail tightly wrapped; he lip licks when the assessor opens the kennel door and when the pointer tool is slowly brought close for him to sniff he stands with a mid-level body backing up into the back of the corner while raising a paw. All Spice tolerated pets on his head and cheeks, but when being pet down and around his body, he quickly jumped down with a low-level body and wide/dilated eyes and attempted to escape the kennel. When blocked from running out, he retreated to the top of the den with a tense body, hunched in shoulders and his ear tilted and continued to lip lick as he wrapped his tail tightly around his legs while looking around for an exit. All Spice tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
