Megabron
Hello, my name is Megabron. My animal id is #245595. I am a male brindle dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 4 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a agency on 1/13/2026.
Megabron is at risk due to behavioral concerns. During his stay at our care center, Megabron has refused to return to kennel with a tense body and lip licking. He pushes hard to flee back out of kennel. It has been observed Megabron pulls very hard towards other dogs with a tense body and hard stares at them without being easily redirected. During Megabron's assessment he grips a toy firm, engages with it, becomes tense and hovers over the toy when the assess-a-hand approaches. Staff reported that Megabron lunged and growled at someone on the street. Megabron is receptive to treats and allows petting from handlers. He enjoys various toys and engages with enrichment. Medically, Megabron has dental disease but is otherside healthy at this time.

His history is a mystery, and he's still getting comfortable in the shelter - he's a bit cautious at first but settles with calm, patient handling. He doesn't always like to share his food, toys, or bedding with other animals, and he appreciates slow introductions to new people and places. He loves attention, but on his own terms, and would benefit from an adopter who can read and respect his body language. My Ideal Home A calm, adult-only home with a patient adopter who understands canine body language and can provide consistent positive reinforcement. Megabron will thrive with predictable routines, gentle training, and a dedicated person who can give him time and space to build trust. He would do best in a single-pet household or with very carefully managed, slow introductions if other animals are present. Good with Other Pets? Not recommended as a roommate with other animals right now. He doesn't always like to share food, toys, or bedding, so any introductions would need to be very gradual and supervised by an experienced adopter. Cat compatibility is unknown. Leash Manners Megabron is still settling in and is working on his leash manners. He responds best to calm handlers and positive reinforcement. Continued practice with short, structured walks and reward-based training will help him gain confidence outdoors. Overall Health Healthy overall and receiving routine care from our team while he settles into the shelter. Other Fun Facts Megabron has a striking brindle-and-black coat and a quiet, independent charm. He enjoys affection when he's ready and is happiest with someone who will take time to learn his signals. He's microchipped and the team here is helping him feel safe while he looks for his forever home.

Summary:: 1/21/26: Megatron rushes towards the gate to greet another dog, tense body, pawing and pushing his face into the fence.
Summary (5):: 2/12/26: Megabron has been observed to display kennel reactivity, as well as pull hard out the room, to the point of passing out.
Summary (6):: 02/07/26: Megabron is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He softly jumps up on the kennel door and begins barking at handler as they produce treats, he accepts them and is leashed while distracted. Once he is leashed and exits kennel he begins pulling toward dogs he passes while exiting the room, he is distracted with a tossed treat and follows it out the room while simultaneously being pulled away by handler. Megabron is walked down the stairs and out to the street for his walk. Outside he pulls toward people passing in an inquisitive manner, but is kept away from them by handler. Megabron will sometimes accept tossed treats but will often be focused on sniffing the street and miss them. He is walked around the street and relieves himself before being brought back inside. He returns to kennel following tossed treats. 2/6/26:Megabron was barking and jumping at the front of the kennel upon approach. He bites the leash once, when trying to leash but is easily distracted with treats between the kennel door. Once leashed, he maintains hard pull while walking out on the driveway with vibrating body. He begins sniffing the floor and starts sniffing handlers treat pouch. When asked to sit for a treats, he jumps up and mouths handlers hand mildly for treats. Handler tosses treats on the floor which he grabs. Upon return, he pulls hard inside the building and into the kennel where he is returned with no issue. 2/2/26: Staff reported that Megabron lunged and growled at someone on the street. He was given a backyard/driveway walks sign. 1/31/26: Megabron is at the front of his kennel, jumping on the kennel door. The handler lures him with a treat and easily leashes him. While walking out of the room, Megabron's body is turned towards the kennels, and he pulls hard while doing so. In the elevator, Megabron jumps up for the wet floor sign. The handler calls him, and as he sits in front of them, the handler uses a squeaker. Megabron looks up and jumps very high with a close mouth. While walking out of the building, Megabron relieves himself, as well as pulls towards staff members with a loose body. On the street, Megabron walks ahead with moderate tension, pulling to sniff around and relieve himself. He doesn’t mind a few passersby; however, he focuses on an elderly person walking a few feet away. The handler holds Megabron to the side and walks slowly past the person. Then, Megabron stops focusing on them. Upon entry, try Megabron picks up and drops a toy. The handler clips their leash and walks Megabron to his kennel; as they walk in, Megabron‘s body is slightly turned towards the kennels, but he returns with ease.
Summary (7):: 1/25/26: Megabron is at the front of the kennel with a neutral body. Handler leashes him and he pulls very hard out of the room. He is brought to the street where he continues to pull hard. Handler engages with him briefly having him sit for treats and photos. He takes the treats gently. Megabron is then walked back to the shelter. He pulls hard back inside and is returned to his kennel without issue. 1/22/26: Reported on behavior board to pull very hard. Handler recommended being careful bringing him back and that 2 handlers may be needed. 1/21/26 (For dog-dog interaction) Megabron is laying down quietly in kennel, facing toward front with neutral body. He is easily leashed with a treat lure. Megabron pulls moderately out of room, is brought to vestibule in yard for interaction. (please see dog-dog notes for details). After interaction Megabron is walked into another yard. He is generally aloof, does not consistently check-in with handler but allows petting with neutral body. Megabron relieves himself, and is walked back to MACC. Due to previous noted resistance returning to kennel, handler attempts to run Megabron back to kennel, he enters without issue and takes treats through kennel door. 1/15/26: It is reported on the behavior board that Megatron resists returning to kennel but tossing treats in help. 1/15/26: It is obsvered that Megabron baulks in front of his kennel. When the handler muscles Megabron into kennel he pushes his way out of kennel twice. When the handler attempts a third time Megabron becomes tense and starts starting up at the handler while lip licking. Another handler steps in and is able to muscle Megabron in and quickly closes the door. A "will flee" sign is added to his kennel. 1/14/26: Megabron is at the front of the kennel with a loose body. He is easily leashed and pulls very hard out of the room to the street. He continues to pull hard on the street as he pulls towards spots to relieve himself. Handler leash harnesses Megabron and he continues to pull very hard. Dogs pass and he hard stares at dogs, he is unable to be redirected with squeakers or treats. Megabron is walked to assessment room, he greets the assessor by jumping up on the handlers desk. Megabron is collared with ease. After his assessment, Megabron pulls very hard back to kennel. He stops outside the kennel and has to be muscled in. Megabron then turns around and pulls hard out of the kennel. He has to be muscled back in again. The leash is removed and the interaction is ended. 1/14/26: It is reported that Megabron is biting and pulling the kennel bars with his mouth.

Date of initial:: 1/14/2026
Summary:: Loose body at first but tenses and stops wagging tail when you look at him
ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Megabron so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 3
Recommendations:: No children (under 13)
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to dog reactivity and resource guarding we recommend a home with no children.
Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Fearful,Anxiety,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration
Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: Megabron has been obsvered to become tense and hover over toys in his possession. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Megabron's mouth, and any time something is removed they should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Fearful: Megabron was obsvered to become tense during his medical exam and would stop wagging his tail when people would look at him. They should never be forced to approach anything that they are uncomfortable with or submit to petting or handling. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Megabron would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period. Anxiety: Megabron is obsvered to be panting throughout the assessment and seeking exit. If Megabron displays anxious behavior in their future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving them other things to focus on to alleviate their anxiety. Positive reinforcement, force-free training should be used. Please see handout on Generalized Anxiety. On Leash Reactivity: Megabron has been obsvered to pull very hard towards other dogs and hard stare at them. Megabron will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.
