Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow

Date of intake:: 9/4/2025

Spay/Neuter status:: Yes

Means of surrender (length of time in previous home):: Stray, no known history

Date of assessment:: 9/6/2025

Summary:: Kronos is highly fearful and refuses to leave his kennel. When staff attempt to remove him, he becomes tense and grumbles. Due to these behaviors, Kronos will not get a handling assessment.

Summary (6):: 09/07/25: Kronos is near the front of his kennel lying down as handler approaches. He is offered treats slowly but does not accept them. Handler steps away momentarily to retrieve more high value treats, upon returning Kronos is laid at the back of his kennel. Handler attempts to coax him forward toward the door but these attempts are unsuccessful. Handler attempts to lasso Kronos for a bit but they are unsuccessful, Kronos plants his head flat on the kennel floor and trembles slightly. Handler ends interaction to not further escalate Kronos' FAS.

Summary (7):: 9/6/25: Kronos is laying at the back of his kennel flat on the ground. He is not interested in treats. Handler is able to lean in and place the leash on him. Initially he gets up moves towards the front then lowers his body and retreats to the back of his kennel. Handler kneels and opens the door wide but he does not come forward. Handler is able to remove his soiled linens and add clean ones. He then also allows the handler to use the hook to remove the leash and interaction is ceased due to stress levels. 09/05/25: Kronos is at the center of his kennel laying down as handler approaches. He is offered treats but does not accept them, he is tense and starts upward at handler. When handler unlocks the kennel door and opens it slightly Kronos stands and approaches the front. When presented the leash he shies away and moves to the back of kennel. He is leashed using a pole leash, he hesitates for a moment but exits kennel following handler. He stops and uses the bathroom as soon as he reaches the hall and begins pulling mildly in the opposite direction of the yard. Handler waits with Kronos attempting to coax him in the opposite direction, but he refuses and does not respond to any method of coaxing. He begins trembling and shaking so handler returns Kronos to kennel, he re-enters kennel readily and a hook is used to remove his leash, interaction is ended shortly after. 09/05/25: Kronos was left in the behavior office overnight due to intake behavior, upon behaviors arrival he is quietly laying in his crate. A member of K9 behavior lifts the bed sheets covering Kronos' crate, he approaches the front slowly and sniffs around. Handler offers a variety of treats which Kronos briefly investigates but does not accept. He shies and looks away from handler and yawns a few times. Kronos avoids eye contact and will tense up when direct eye contact is made, handler continues offering treats to Kronos but he is unreceptive and begins whining at handler. After a bit he begins hard barking and grumbling at handler, handler moves the crate sideways and requests the assistance of a second handler. Handler uses a pole leash to successfully leash Kronos who initially dodges the leash for a while before laying down in the corner allowing successful leashing. Once he exits kennel a second leash is placed on him and both handlers begin slowly walking with him into kennel. He initially stops and continues twice but begins to stand on his hind legs and thrash when entering the kennel room. He is muscled into kennel and a hook is used to retrieve his leashes.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Kronos so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to the behaviors seen in the Care Centers, the Behavior believes he should go to a home with older children. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to Kronos behavior in the Care Centers, Kronos should go to a New Hope Partner that can manage his behavior.

Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Kronos is highly fearful and was observed to vocalize and become tense when staff attempt to interact with him. Positive Reinforcement should be used to help him associate new people with things he likes such as treats and toys. Please see the handout on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression.
