Godzilla
Hello, my name is Godzilla. My animal id is #248919. I am a male brindle dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 months 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 3/17/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- no time for animal.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormGodzilla is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Godzilla displays fearful behavior and handling sensitivity, including leash biting and a low threshold for arousal. Godzilla has been seen hiding behind known staff and in the back of his kennel when it is approached. He has grabbed a staff member’s finger during handling, causing redness without breaking skin. He is highly fearful currently, but has warmed up to select staff despite high FAS. Medically, Godzilla is apparently healthy.

Godzilla was surrendered to the care center by his owner due to his owner not being able to care for him anymore. Godzilla in the care center has not been acclimating, and has been leash biting intensely, accidently biting a staff members thumb, not breaking skin. As a result, we recommend he is placed with one of our New Hope Partners.

Date of assessment:: 3/21/2026
Summary:: 3/21/26: Due to Godzilla's intense leash biting, a handling assessment can not be conducted at this time.
Summary:: Given the concerning behaviors observed in care, Godzilla is not an appropriate candidate for the playgroup due to the difficulty he presents in being handled safely.
Summary (7):: 3/23: Godzilla scurries to the back of his kennel when a handler approaches. He sits at the back of the kennel, trembling as the handler takes his picture. He does not take treats or show interest in a squeaky ball. 3/21/26: Godzilla is at the front of his kennel heavily panting and vocalizing when approached. Godzilla kennel is opened and he is already trying to stick his head into the gap of the door being opened. Godzilla is attempted to be clipped to his collar, and as the handler attempts to do so he grabs the handlers thumb and bites down with hard pressure. The handler immediately removes there hand and left teeth indentations and redness. The handler locks the kennel and walks away. 3/19/26: Godzilla is observed to be leash biting and tugging at the leash intensely with a medical staff member while in kennel. When the behavior team member approaches to help, he is able to drop the leash when treats are tossed. He then quickly grabs the leash again and the handler is able to get the leash back when they squeak a squeaker. The handler then gives him a second and then attempts to leash him again to take him to medical for an exam. He then grabs the second handler's leash and tugs it in and begins to chew on it. He is able to drop the leash and it is retrieved with a hook while he is jumping up at the door when a squeaker is squeaked.

ENERGY LEVEL:: Godzilla is described as active and enthusiastic. He will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. We recommend feeding with puzzle feeders and food-dispensing toys. And we recommend only force-free, reward-based training techniques for Godzilla.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to Godzilla's arousal concerns and leash biting, we recommend he goes to an adult-only home. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to Godzilla's arousal concerns and leash biting, we recommend he is placed with one of our New Hope Partners.
Potential challenges: : Fearful,Leash-biting,Low threshold for arousal,Bite history (human)
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Godzilla is a bit fearful at the care center. It is important to always go slow and give Godzilla the option to walk away from any social interaction. Godzilla should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Godzilla’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Godzilla would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings. Bite history (human): Godzilla has grabbed a staff members finger during leaving leaving redness and indentations, but not breaking skin. Leash-biting: Godzilla is quick to grab the leash in his mouth. We recommend walking him with a toy to dissuade him from grabbing the leash. Positive reinforcement, force-free training is advised to teach him to focus on you rather than grabbing the leash. Low threshold for arousal: Godzilla may have a low threshold for arousal and needs guidance to learn how to appropriately channel that energy when he becomes overstimulated. He will need daily mental and physical stimulation and exercise, and force-free, positive reinforcement-based training may help him learn impulse control and develop desirable behaviors that can be rewarded.
