Summary:: 7/27: Coco greets M LMB dog at the gate with a high tail. The other dog attempts to sniff Coco and Coco touches his nose to the other dogs. When walked out of the yard, he alert barks and whines at the other dog.

Summary (1):: Coco is a social, affectionate male dog with a playful personality. He is very active and enjoys playing, but he also loves relaxing and can be a bit of a couch potato. He spends most of his time wherever people are, although he also likes hanging out in the basement. Coco walks on a leash with mild to moderate pulling and enjoys going on 3–4 walks each day, usually lasting 5–10 minutes. He used to be crate trained but no longer needs a crate. One of his favorite things is going for car rides, and he gets excited to hop in the car. Coco knows his name and responds to cues such as "sit" and "lay down." His previous owner loved that he has remained playful despite his current situation. He especially enjoys Beggin' Strips as treats and loves playing with rope toys and balls. Coco eats both wet and dry food, typically Pedigree or Rachael Ray, but he is happy to eat just about any type of wet dog food. During grooming, Coco can become fearful and may bark, growl, or snap, and he is uncomfortable with nail trims.

Summary (7):: 7.29 Coco is at the front of the kennel and is easily roped. Coco is taken for a walk. During the walk Coco has a soft body and pulls a mild amount. Coco ignores people passed during the walk. When passing a dog in a yard Coco approaches with a soft body, greets the other dog, sniffing at them from the other side of the gate, before walking away. Coco is easily returned to his kennel.

Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: Coco finds treats (bones, rawhides, etc.), toys, food he has a tense body or hovers over them. He should be left alone when eating. Nothing should ever be taken directly from Coco's mouth. We recommend always trading for something of an equal or higher value. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Handling/touch sensitivity: Coco's owner's report he is uncomfortable with nail trims and has escalated to snapping. It is important to avoid touching Coco's paws at this time and to be cautious when touching him in other areas, such as his side where he has a large mass as we do not know where he may have other sensitivities. Positive reinforcement, reward-based training should be used to pair touch with good things such as food rewards to teach Coco to be more comfortable with this. Please see the handout on Handling and Touch Sensitivity. Fearful/Fearful/potential for defensive aggression/Bite history (human): Coco is highly fearful of loud noises (fireworks, thunderstorms). Coco escalated to biting the owner on one occasion when he was hiding in a small space and the owner was trying to take him out. The bite did not cause much damage but is important to note. Please see handout on Fearful Potential for Defensive Aggression. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Coco is reported to be reactive to both cats and dogs, hard barking and growling.
